:rage:

Birmingham is big enough and ugly enough to be our very own. No need to include us as ---- Midlands. If places like Walsall and Wolves want to be associated with a meaningless name thats upto them. I want no part in it.

West Midlands to me is the name of our region, not the county. The West Midlands used in its correct meaning is the area that stretches from Herefordshire/Worcestershire in the south to Staffordshire in the north, so why for goodness sake does our city region/county use the same name ?? :vomit:

Even wikipedia has problems trying to explain the two, they are 2 different things.

Welcome to my world, welcome to Greater Birmingham.
Believe me, Brum X the people of Walsall and Wolverhampton don't like the identity of the West Midlands any more than you do. However, they would find living under the area known as Greater Birmingham even more distasteful. That's not a slight on Birmingham, it's just that they are proud of their own identity and don't want to disappear into a city that they are not part of. Neither have ever had a Birmingham post code or telephone area code.
Like it or not, 'West Midlands' is the official name of the county. Walsall and Wolverhampton would prefer to again be part of Staffordshire.

Regards

Kevin

Hi Kevin

People in Bolton or Wigan or Stockport who are equally proud of their own identity also dont want to disappear into a city that they are not part of, however the arrangement they have up north works wonders.

And i dont really think this has anything to do with the B Postcode or being an 0121er, as both Tamworth and Redditch have B postcodes and are definately not part of Birmingham. This is about marketing our city region to the world and using the largest city name to stop confusion, thats all it is IMO.

To me this is about investment in our region, nothing else and the sooner this is changed the better.

Cheers

:)

I'm afraid you're being optimistic if you think Kay's figures will be released soon my the CAA. They still haven't published April's stats!!
It's ridiculous. After the first year of the dreadful revamped CAA system a couple of years ago things seemed to be gradually improving in terms of producing stats reasonably on time, but still not as quickly as used to be the case with the 'old system'. Now they have regressed to the performance I'd hoped they'd left behind. I'd even hoped they might be working back towards their output of yesteryear (ie publishing monthly airport stats around the middle of the following month such as April's in mid May).

What exactly is it that takes so long in publishing the data? I appreciate there is a lot of data to go through and format correctly, but if as you say they used to publish the monthly data in the middle of the next month, why is that no longer the case? Less manpower available? Not as much of a priority?

The dilitoriness coincided with a revamp of the CAA website two or three years ago. It's a statutory corporation but its costs come from its charges to the organisations it regulates. In theory then it should not be subject to the sort of cost cutting we've seen in such public bodies as local authorities, NHS, police forces and others. Whether that is the case in practice I don't know. It may be also that providing the stats is not regarded as a priority, as you suggest.

BHX used to announce their passenger figures within a few days of the end of the month whether it had been a good or bad month so the figures are there. However at the moment i doubt they could manage that even if it was a record breaker.
The news section on their website was leading with a story about their plans for airport safety week,or something like that, for 3 weeks after it had finished.

Hi,

would just like to take the opportunity to say how happy I am to of been part of this great page, but unfortunately you wont get no more airside shots from BHX from me I have been lucky enough to land a great new job down at London Heathrow starting in July

hope you can carry this great page on :)

Good luck with your new job! And you can always post photos from Heathrow as well!

I estimate April at 9% down
and May about 6% down
Would expect June-Septemeber to be around 6% too

Thats exactly what i was thinking Jez.

No matter if its BHX or not Sam, i loves Planes more than BHX in particular.

Congratulations Sam, i look forward to seeing you on the TV Programme "Heathrow, Britains busiest airport" in 2019.

April CAA figures published today - BHX missing , shown as not yet available for reporting as at 14 June 2018. It does say that next update is 18th June ( today !) so lets see if we get included

BHX has now had 100 different B787's, apart from LHR has any other airport (MAN or LGW) had as many ?

Possibly due to formatting, I'm finding this very difficult to understand.
In all cases (except the very first) I'm seeing an airline name.

Below that, a registration.

Below that an aircraft type/sub-type

Below that, a 5 figure number which I assume to be the MSN

Then below that a 2 or 3 figure number which makes no sense. It can't be the number of visits or PAX carried.

E.g.

'Norwegian

LN-LNI

Boeing 787-9

37307

400'

There is no way that LN-LNI has made 400 visits and will not have carried any PAX to BHX.

What am I missing?

Kevin

Kevin

Could it be the line number ie LN-LNI was the 400th 787 made.

Interesting words from Justine Greening.

Former Transport Secretary Justine Greening has written to Midland MPs urging them to vote against a planned third runway at Heathrow Airport.

She claimed the project would damage trade at Birmingham Airport.

In a letter to the region's MPs, she said an analysis shows Birmingham Airport losing 17,098 international flights annually by 2030 as a direct result of Heathrow expansion.

She said: "You may feel it’s time to get on with it', but the 'it' is a clear downgrading of your regional airports’ connections.

"Birmingham Airport in your region is nearly 15% smaller on international flights by 2030 as a direct consequence of the Airports NPS proposal."

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
