Well, if it's a competition, Manchester will have at least 5 of the triple docking jetbridges on the new T2, with options to modify a further 3 if the need for more A380 gates arises.

Hi User, seeing as Emirates currently use T1 at MAN, will that be getting a makeover too, or will they change terminals so that they can use the new jetbridges?

It would definitely educate a lot of people and make them think.

Showing close ups of an AIRBUS A380 parked up at BHX in march should do something. Its not as if they can make that up is it ????

Ive shared the Emirates article with my 500+ friends on a certain popular website so that should help a little.

An ad would be great but I imagine it would be very pricey.

It's just one of those things that seems to have been ingrained into local people minds over time. I suppose realistically we've only had the full runway for just over two years. I just hope there is a big media event on March 27th as yesterday was very disappointing.

In fact that last week in March could be a great one for media events. On the 27th Emirates start A380 ops, the 27th March also sees the arrival of Iberia, the 29th sees the first Bucharest flight from Blue Air and on the 30th Qatar start 🙂

Thank you for you kind comments Ray Finkle, but i am retired now, and prefer to keep it that way. However, that does not mean that i don't have an interest in how best BHX can get its message across.

Press releases to the media should be targetted; get the message across succintly and in as few words as possible, don't be over elaborate and concentrate on the main topic.

Today, the Birmingham Mail followed the press release about Emirates re the A380 virtually to the word - that is the new daily A380 flight. What the newspaper didn't do was make any reference to its cargo handling ability and the effect this would have on cargo through BHX; neither did it mention the world-wide opportunities from Dubai.

The press rlease contained too much information.

Better it would be if the Mail now went back to the newspaper on a one-to-one and explained the cargo aspect; perhaps a detailed report in the business section, and likewise a further article in the travel section re world-wide opportunities from Dubai.

It requires the PR section at BHX to monitor press releases, be vigilant and be prepared to follow them up, whether it be the Birmingham Mail, Daily Mail, local TV channels or whoever.

Be alert and be persistent.

In terms of no reference to cargo handling ability, maybe EK have asked not to promote it, in the fact the A380, especially 2 class, actually reduces cargo capacity, not enhance it.

The A380 already carries less cargo than the B777, the 2 class A380 even less due to the extra 100 people's worth of luggage to carry too.

So, I can assure you, cargo carrying ability at BHX has certainly not been improved.

Could that be the reason that MAN has yet to see a dedicated cargo service to the Middle East anounced despite all the rumours? Could Qatar or Etihad be taking the cargo that Emirates can't take on the A380—after all, both of them mostly use 77Ws from MAN now?

Qatar does have a mail contract from Manchester, but hold cargo on all airlines going east is getting close to full on many flights.

The new pax flights to PVG/PEK and extra capacity from Qatar will help, but, with Emirates switching the 3rd flight to A380 from MAN, sky cargo in particular will need to re-adjust capacity if they aim to remain competitive.

Just for a bit of fun as its nearly christmas :yahoo: has anybody seen the flashing christmas lights on top of the old natwest tower. Looks rather funky do you not agree and i bet you can see them from BHX. You can see the lights on top of the BT tower and Radisson Blu Hotel.

Nah, Big Wes on the right is an 80s Gem. However there is a rumour that it is rife for development so i think its days are numbered too im afraid but not for a while. Everything in Brum comes down after a few years and rebuilt, even at BHX this will happen.

Tell that to the Druids Heath housing estate near where I live. About 2 square miles of 50s—60s dog poo and the only major redevelopments look to date from the 70s.

Well you might think that I would be upset..... but, I think it is a positive move for the Airport and Emirates in particular. We will (it's true) have a drop in capacity of approximately 11000 Kgs of cargo each day (each way) but this is more than compensated for with the numbers of seats being introduced to BHX. On more than one occasion I have said that passengers dictate services coming in and out of BHX not the cargo. Yes it is very useful to me to have the options on cargo space for my Customers, but if the flights don't come in that is an option which vanishes.

I personally think this shows how much Emirates thinks of the market here at BHX when you look at how far we have gone in the last 15 years (1 x A330 at the start to 3 x 777-300's with a change to 2 x 777-300's and an A380 come the end of March). Now if they try and change one of the other flights to an A380 that might be a different story. We shall just have to wait and see.

Hi there CL44, regarding your most recent post, yes it's exciting times with Emirates, it's great to think now after all these 15 years now that Emirates have been serving bhx from dubai to Perth, Australia, and as we've seen the 777/300 being used on this route for many years now, even with this new third daily service hasn't diluted Emirates popularity or demand at all. It was only a matter of time before the A380 was introduced, so with the demand from Emirates not diluting, but getting stronger, who knows, if Emirates decided to use it first as a seasonal start, then wait and see if the demand is there for an autumn and winter programme, then see if the demand is there, and if this A380 new service proves a winner, then Emirates will have to think about their next move, and hopefully that move in the next 12 to 18 months proves to be very decisive...let's just wait and see what happens...
