Sad times Rob. I'm sure that everyone joins me in wishing you well and that you are able to find alternative employment.
I don't work at the airport Scottie.

Jerry's post below says it all the poster who posted the info was up to no good, in these times of hardship it is very sad someone can be so insensitive to those concerned maybe a Mod can delete that part of the post?.

Its a massive blow to the whole industry others airports have had to deal with Flybe going DSA had already weathered that storm pretty well with what was to be a fourth based TUI unit and no or very minimal losses of pax for this year now all airports are faced with huge challenges for a period of time.

Apparently the airport has issued a statement saying that the information in the post is untrue and that no staff have been laid off and that operations continue to run as normal.

Rather depressing that someone feels they should add to the mountain of bad news the world is dealing with right now !

I've annotated your #118 but not removed it entirely for the reasons that I've indicated therein. The LocalYokel, F4A Admin.

Wiz have always been very positive towards DSA they could be just updating their website.

I fear all airports that have been attracting 1.5M passengers a year or less are in for a tough time keeping the few airlines the likes of DSA, Cardiff, Exeter and such have at any sort of reasonable level is vital the airports are in a nightmare position. Any cut for these airports is a huge blow.

Bad news for all the UK airports hit by this Wizz cull, however it will hit a place like DSA far harder than the others.

Official statements and such seem a thing of the past and the likes of Twitter seem the way things come out and are announced nowdays.

Two airlines effectively has become one and a half at DSA the issue is could it affect the thinking of TUI.

This news has the potential to leave the airport in its biggest mess yet or more so has. A rocky road at DSA has just become an unpassable one for the airport. DSA looks left needing snookers and a fair few of them.

I think it's safe to say all airports are on a rocky road right now. We will get through this, we've done it before, and we'll do it again.
True Martin, some will recover quite quickly when this virus goes away the big hubs around Europe for sure as carriers will retrench to those strongholds however for some airports it may take many many years, for others this virus and the end of Flybe, I don't think some will ever recover to anything near previous passenger levels.

For DSA with the owners having previous history of sending Teesside to sleep whilst owning the place the very really worry is they may just manage to do it at DSA they don't have a good track record owning airports, if TUI start thinking what's the point nobody else wants to operate from here why do we it's not worth thinking about.

With such a cut of Wizz flights just TUI as the other carrier DSA has no other airline to ask who could offer any of those lost routes like other airports will have say Ryanair who may just have interest in one or two axed routes from other airports like Birmingham. The future for a place like DSA could be very grim.

Haven't TUI got a strong hold in DSA? No competition on any leisure markets?

Some destinations that you are unsure would work but clearly they believe will - Cape Verde, Cancun, Orlando. LBA can only dream of such destinations even with its larger & more affluent catchment area.

I don't see TUI leaving unless they are forced out as they have established DSA as their Yorkshire base, i doubt they will be worried about whether DSA is a quiet airport or not as long as it's make them money.

By no means am I saying they will Jerry however Flybe bit the dust, Wizz don't luck like being around in the same way the owners aren't exactly great at this airport game either the situation isn't exactly looking rosy.

TUI have been a rock and hopefully will continue to be for many years however a case of one thing rolling into another would be a disaster for an airport with so few carriers that's the root of the problem at DSA. Two airlines just isn't enough.

It's been a concern that Wizz have still to start operations at DSA when they have elsewhere.

Until everything is confirmed who knows what Wizz will look like at any UK airport however things don't luck like being great.

Wizz resuming from DSA tomorrow, 01/07/20

Doncaster Sheffield Airport is pleased to announce that following the relaxation of travel restrictions Wizz Air will be restarting operations from DSA tomorrow, 1st July, with the first flights expected to Riga, Krakow and Vilnius.

Wizz Air is DSA’s largest airline, having operated from the airport for over a decade, with flights starting in 2006.

Wizz Air serves a number of popular European cities and holiday destinations with low cost fares. It is anticipated that more of these will soon be added to the list of available flights from DSA, as the Government and Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) relax current legislation and restrictions on international travel.

Dee Thomas, Director of Operations at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said “We’re so happy to welcome back Wizz Air passengers to DSA, getting their holiday and travel plans back on track.

“Wizz is a valued partner of Doncaster Sheffield Airport and we are proud to be one of their UK bases. We celebrated 4 million passengers last year and look forward to welcoming many more now that operations have restarted.”

DSA remained fully operation during the Coronavirus pandemic, continuing its freight activities, including the delivery of perishable goods and personal protective equipment, however Wizz Air passengers will be the first to return to the airport, to be followed by TUI passengers next month.

The safety and well-being of customers and colleagues is the number one priority at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, that continues to strictly follow all guidance from Public Health England and the relevant authorities. Personal protective equipment packs including the below will on sale for £5 on entry to the airport. These will include 2 face masks, 2 packs of anti-bacterial wipes, and 2 sets of Vinyl gloves.

Safety measures within the terminal building include social distancing, the use of safety screens, hand sanitiser stations and an enhanced cleaning program. Passengers and staff will be asked to wear face coverings at the airport and to follow the up to date public information displays.

Wizz Air’s flight timetable will be within strict adherence to government advice. Customers with existing bookings will be able to travel, and those wishing to book a holiday are able to do so.

Good News for DSA ops at DSA

We don't know what Wizz will look like at DSA or around the UK a year or 2 down the line with Covid and a slight shift (so far) in how they operate with the bigger presence of sun routes edging in, one thing that DSA and any other small regional airport needs to do is keep hold of as much as possible of what they currently have with what airline's they currently have on board

With the chances of attracting any new airlines slim to non the partnerships with current airlines needs to be rock solid.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
