You don`t just pull a hat full of flights out of thin air and they have promised extra
aircraft in January we will have to wait after all it`s only the 5th and next week is the first full
week of business so lets be patient.

User001 - That is a bit unfair.
Firstly easyjet wont extend BHX because wont bow to their demands.
I was simply pointing out that you have built everyones hopes up about 8 new a/c at MAN and hopefully it may happen but possibly not as they are slots (which mean nothing), keep up the good work the forum would not be the same without you !

I’ve actually maintained that although slots are held for 20 based, 18 at the most is more likely. It’s clear there will be growth, it’s just a matter of how much

I seem to remember User001 just posted a list of slot allocation or requests
so we know some won`t go ahead (LOT) but others will, some will change
destinations(slot sitters) and some will go ahead as expected and of course
some things will just appear out of the blue. The airport authority are expecting
4.5% rise so lets wait a month or so and we will know.

BHX & MAN will both struggle in 2018 with the loss of Monarch, more so BHX as MON was their biggest carrier, BHX are hoping that 70-80% of the capacity will be filled by other carriers. So BHX will be lucky to get to 12.5m pax (13.0m in 2017). With regard MAN growth of 4.5% would be fantastic bearing in mind the loss of Monarch but in reality 2-3% in probably more realistic and still a great result and a step nearer to 30m pax.
It all about managing people expectations and that is what I am trying to do.
Let's move on !

A very balanced and un-biased post Ian and I agree 2018 will be tough compared to last year for both MAN & BHX

Most of the industry's 'big cheese' decision-makers will be back at their desks in earnest from next Monday, the 8th January. From then through to mid-March, short-haul carriers will be making their announcements relating to Summer '18 innovations. We hope for good news at MAN from carriers including EasyJet and Ryanair but take nothing for granted in the meantime.

Easyjet seem to be focusing on their Berlin base.

It makes good sense for EasyJet to seize upon the demise of Air Berlin to strengthen their presence in Germany, but the demise of Monarch Airlines and the void left behind at key UK airports represents a comparable one-off opportunity. EasyJet is acquiring around 25 former Air Berlin Airbuses to cope with the opportunity there, and they will have had access to local expertise (former Air Berlin employees) to help pave the way for establishing themselves there. So I'd be very surprised if the Berlin initiative required such all-consuming focus from EZY management that every expansion-opportunity elsewhere on their network will be sidelined for the duration. EasyJet has the scale to develop multiple opportunities in parallel should they choose to do that. And they are aware that prime former Monarch slots will not be left around waiting for them if they don't take them up. The opportunity is here and now. Use it, or the competition will.

I don't pretend to know what EasyJet's S2018 programme will ultimately look like. But I'd be astonished if expansion is limited to the former Air Berlin network alone. They are a pan-European carrier now with several markets requiring their attention, the UK included. A dedicated team will be tasked with the smooth integration of Berlin ops. Management resources beyond this will take care of the rest of the network.

The first ten weeks of the year is peak season for airline new service announcements. By mid-March we will have a good idea of how MAN's S2018 programme will look. Whether our local news will be good or bad remains to be seen, but it is way too early to slash wrists just yet. My own hunch is that Ryanair will deliver cheerful news. I'm less confident about EasyJet but still think they will come through for us (though not to the extent of 20 based). Jet2 and Thomas Cook are essential ingredients too, but less mystery surrounds their S18 intentions ... they are more 'known quantities'.

Tunisair

Thanks to User001 for this -

Tunisair returning with 1 weekly NBE on Tuesday evening starting 1st May. A320 and B737 listed
.

Awaiting confirmation on their website. Anyone know if Enfidha is down to operate alongside Monastir or if it has replaced it - and also whether the 2x weekly Tunis is still in the pipeline?

Summer 2018 is now starting to firm up a little, but obviously things may change.

At this moment in time, and without wanting to cause any argument or discord, I believe the following to be currently correct:

easyJet are looking at a base of either 16 or 17 aircraft. This is still to be finalised.
Ryanair may increase to 12 based aircraft, however this will not be until 1st June.
Vueling will only operate to Barcelona.
Norwegian only operating under DY codes and therefore limited to Oslo, Stavanger and Stockholm.
El Al - as has been rumoured are looking at 3 times weekly service.

I had heard a rumour of VLM returning, however this has as yet not been confirmed.

Long-haul expansion looks to be on hold.

As and when I have any further information I will pass it along - subject to verification from my source.

Some disappointments in there Scottie but I can't say real surprises. If we do get an extra 4 based easyjet a/c, it won't be too bad, but as with Ryanair it would be reassuring to get something confirmed by way of schedules soon. Time marches on.

Out of interest, do we know whether or not LOT are returning?

Yes, I recall reading that, but there have been suggestions elsewhere I think that the slots had been reinstated. Not sure if that was correct or not.

a post on another site does indicate Kuwait is launching flights "from July". Now whether that means this year or next year is unknown so it's now down to thinking how much lead time would they need to market such a route if it were to start this year? I'd imagine the main passenger flow will be Kuwait to MAN rather than the other way round with the initial MAN contribution to be more in the cargo holds to begin with with the odd business class passenger thrown in, so it may not need that long a lead time?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
