but have had plenty of 'specialists' including the CAA scratching their heads on how to fix it! So Don't hold your breath, its only been out of service for the last 4 years on and off!!

I wonder at what point they'll decide to just rip it out and start a fresh.

I do hope that they opted for the extended warranty

"Yes Sir. This model will never let you down. It's bullet proof, water proof, fire proof and can even withstand a nuclear bomb."

"Now, would you like the extended warranty with that?"

I believe our ILS system is quite new, so cant see them replacing it, the issue is its location on the airfield, so that the ILS glidepath on 33 is lined up correctly with the touchdown zone, it cant be re-posititoned, so once it was moved for the runway extension, the airport presumably didn't expect these problems.

Obviously solving this issue is creating a headache for the airport, they have tried specialist drainage soil, there were also rumours of them having to take the top of the noise bund off too, so I have no idea what they are trying next to fix the problem!

Should not be any water issues after this dry spell. Must be something else.

If the ILS flight calibration just a normal check/calibration, or is it connected to the 33 Glidepath (which has been out of service for a year), could this issue be resolved?

I wish I knew what was happening to the 33 ILS Glideslope, been out of action now since January 2018, because of drainage issues, im sure the ground isnt that wet!! must be a major safety concern, anyone heard any more information about it?

Certainly closed this morning...my flight was circling BHX as runway not open at 4am. Great 12hr 30 mins delay from Dalaman. Don't you just love em.

I need me bed

oh dear Karl, Ii'm guessing you were on TOM757 due at 1540 ? think it was meant to be the Olympus A321 but it went tech! ouch!!

I'm no expert, but I believe the so called beam from the glideslope is affected by the wet grass, and causes reflections that mean the glideslope is not reliable for aircraft to use.

it does beg the question, in summer especially when the ground is bone dry how is it affected by it? and how do other airports in countries with monsoon/very wet conditions cope??

it's all very bizzare!!!!

There is a brook that runs across the airfield so i guess the whole area is a catchment area for that.As most of it is tunnelled maybe they forgot about it when building the runway extension.Wouldn't surprise me.The water cannot drain into the brook and saturates the ground.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?
