Great news for Edinburgh airport. Qatar is a fantastic airline and arguably a better offering than Emirates.

The tide has really turned in Scotland with the two main airports Glasgow and Edinburgh. Both airports were carrying around the same number of passengers only five or six years ago now Edinburgh seems to be forging ahead. I still think Glasgow, the industrial and financial capital of Scotland will come back when it finds it's feet. The Common Wealth Games is certain to give Glasgow a major boost so interesting times ahead in the battle for long haul flights to Scotland.

Edinburgh to see Qatar's A350-900XWB from 1st July 2018 - EDI departure shows daily, DOH departure shows three-weekly.

Strange that the EDI-DOH flight shows A350 daily yet the reverse only shows it on Monday Wednesdays and Fridays. Possible glitch maybe.
It's good to see that they are giving the route a boost! It will be interesting to see Etihads reaction to it.

From 1st July Qatar Airways will operate the A350 900 on the Edinburgh route daily.

Qatar Airways will go double daily on Mondays. Wednesdays and Fridays. Taking their flights up to 10 weekly all on the A350-900. This will start on the 1st July and last until the end of October.

Doha – Edinburgh
22MAR20 – 28MAR20 Reduce from 7 to 5 weekly
29MAR20 – 30JUN20 Reduce from 10 to 7 weekly, A350-900XWB operating
eff 02JUL20 Increase from 10 to 14 weekly, A350-900XWB operating

From today's Travel Trade Gazette

Qatar Airways plans to reinstate flights from Heathrow, Edinburgh and Manchester by the end of June, subject to UK government permission.

Now it's expected that Qatar will start up again on the 1st of June at 3x weekly, increasing to 4x weekly from the 1st of July and 5x weekly from the 1st of August all on B787-8, then they will offer a daily A350-900 from September 1st.

Qatar 351 being used on tomorrows service - 30th Aug. First ever visit to EDI I believe. The avgeeks will have to be up early to catch this one landing. Due to land at 06:50.

I should imagine they will use gate 15/16? Huge wing span and wide body to accommodate. Will it knock out other gates for the time it’s on the ground?

Did the 351 make it in @Jetsco ?

I'm not 100% familiar with the ramp layout at Edinburgh but more often than not, if there isn't a stand big enough to accommodate, the aircraft wingtips can overhang the inter stand access road. This generally means neighbouring stands cannot be used. This of course is very dependant on the type of stand layout used at the airport.

It sure did make it. Don’t know which gate was used. Qatar also used the 351 on yesterdays service - 31/8. Back to scheduled 359 today.

DOH-EDI route appears to be performing incredibly well this month. Demand probably increased with students travelling. Some inbound flights completely sold out and economy sold out most days in next 2 weeks. Another 351 due in tomorrow.

Looks like it used stand 16 which is a widebody stand along with 15 and 18. Each of these stands can instead accommodate 2x smaller aircraft (B738/A320 for example) and are marked 15A and 15B (see pics attached). Overnight there will be 6x night stopping aircraft parked on these stands and during the day are mainly used for widebodies like the Qatar A359/A35K, the Air Canada B788, Delta B763 and others.

Yesterday morning, the Qatar A359 used stand 18, Air Canada B788 used 16 and Delta B763 from BOS used 15. When the Qatar departed it was replaced by another Delta B763 from JFK.

Excellent info. Thanks. The gate set up at EDI is really weird. Int arrivals at both ends of terminal building. Departing pax unable to board if arriving pax are using adjacent gates. The only real solution would be a separate terminal for all int arrivals. Pre pandemic, plans had been drawn up to either create a new satellite building on the east side - opposite the existing extension or further extended the current one. A separate satellite building with gates and air bridges would obviously come at a huge cost. Pax access to/from the building would also be an issue. An underground walkway or train would be required. Road access wouldn’t be a problem on that side given the work that’s already started on the new access road. All very hypothetical given the current financial issues facing the world. The current airport owners will also look to sell if the price is right.

Qatar W22

Qatar starting to amend system and aircraft. Subject to change. Previously planned 788 from October is on certain dates replaced with a larger 789. A359 also operating on a few dates. 789 also operating on many dates in December and January 23. Presumably to meet high demand during the festive period. Did Emirates let slip an opportunity to cash in on high demand? The rumoured return to EDI hasn’t materialised as yet.

Qatar really mixing the equipment up. Sending in a 773 tomorrow. First time visitor to EDI I believe. According to website, tomorrows EDI-DOH is sold out. Is demand really so high? If correct, their load factors for September must be very high.

Todays service from EDI to DOH was cancelled. The 351 presumably went tech. This explains the 773 being used to transport Monday pax not filtered via LHR or MAN and Tuesdays booked pax. The 773 being used is fitted out with QR’s latest Q-Suites. 42J and 312 economy. Total - 354.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
