Someone is going to give us the running annual total very soon and an estimate of when we reach 13m passengers! Great fun. It's like the expectation of Sunderland v Newcastle election counting!!

Year to date total = 4,753,522
Year to date growth = +15.5%

Rolling 12 month total = 12,294,223 (+15.6%)

So 5 months in and things are hotting up! Jet2 are really making their presence known. Soapplying the average rolling 12 months growth to our 2016 pax numbers, this gives us a 2017 projection of circa 13,460,000 pax for 2017….

This is the 3rd highest rate of growth for the airport in the last 18 months after Dec 16 (24.0%) and April 17 (21.7%) (which is an amazing feat). As ian has said, May is always an indication of how well summer is going as it has 2x Bank Holidays, but still this is a great result, especially compared to other airports.

Luton recorded 1,445,660 pax (up 8.1%), Edinburgh recoded 1,231,712 (up 10.8% ) …only 29,200 pax above BHX!!!

…and Stansted, even though then have a brand new Jet2 base also, only recorded an increase of 7%!

Great figures for BHX, but I can se why the growing pains are showing. 20% is a lot to handle. At this rate, August could be looking at circa 1,555,000 pax!!!

Super figures just hope that they can keep up with the facility side of things, various U.K. airports showing really good growth which runs contrary to all the doom and gloom we hear , Brexit etc.

Special praise for Jet2 I think with all the marketing efforts they are entering the public mind and can go from strength to strength.

Fantastic numbers and far higher than I think most of us expected.

What stuck out for me is long haul up 2.2%. On the face of it the number is quite small but when you think that last May we had a daily American, more Emirates morning flights and an 8th weekly Qatar it suddenly seems quite impressive. I wouldn't have been surprised if long haul had been slightly down.

Those are amazing figures, BHX is really on a roll at the moment.

All i can see especially for the next few months is equally good passenger figures which is quite exciting.

I hope the airlines are taking note, we are a growing airport :)

With the signiificant ramp up at BHX by Jet2, I'm going to go out on a limb in saying that there should be something like 13.75 million passengers this year or in percentage terms, 18% growth on last year.

And to think not that long ago BHX could not get above 9 million passengers, this is quite impressive.

Wow. I nearly posted on here that I would be happy with 15% but nearly 20%! Happy days. We can't be that far behind Edinburgh now, although they posted an impressive number.

Indeed the facilities need to keep up. Limited time to improve facilities but the airport management need to ensure that all security scanners and border control points are manned at busy times.

If new passengers have really long delays this year they might not be back next year.

That will have been from the outbound TCX charter which was operated by G-VYGK (according to Planespotters.net its current configuration is Y321).

From the official website:

Birmingham Airport has seen another month of record breaking growth this year.

Figures for June have revealed the Midlands gateway saw over 1.3 million passengers travel through the terminal – giving 16.4 percent growth when compared to the same month last year.

In total 1,301,962 passengers flew through Birmingham – over 183,000 more than the same month in 2016.

So 6 months in and things are hotting up! Jet2 are really making their presence known and growth from the likes of Vueling and Monarch are playing their part. So applying the average rolling 12 months growth to our 2016 pax numbers, this gives us a 2017 projection of circa 13,500,000 pax for 2017….

We are now half way through the year, and with this being the first Christmas being operated by jet2, I would expect similar growth to continue throughout the rest of 2016. The 13.4-13.5m figure then is looking likely!!!

I don’t know if all airports have announced yet but from what I have seen, we have LGW at +5.6%, LTN at +6.4%, and GLA at +5.7%... so with BHX growing nearly 3x faster than these, its an amazing feet…
