I guess with Easter being in March last year the figures are a bit distorted.Never the less nice to see the increase on Newark but Madrid is a surprise. Was hoping Dublin would be our first 1M route but maybe not this year.
I think Mays figures will give a more accurate picture.

Hmmmm Madrid still has RYR, MON & IBX operating it. DY were also the smallest operator/lowest requency on the route so shouldn't effect the route too much though agree the triple digit growth my slow.

I'm assuming QR is down on last year as in Apr 16 they were operating 8x weekly? The fact the they have lost 1 fly a week but only down 4% is pretty good going!

Great to see all our big long haul carriers in the 80's load factors. I know it comes down to yield but you still have to fill them seats.

Yes load factors look pretty good so in theory they may be able to boost yields but to be honest I don't know as I'm only an enthusiast although I did have some involvement with aviation in my work.

I did enjoy seeing the some of our sun routes doing well this month. Just as one example Faro,

April 2016 BHX 13688 vs 23486 for EMA

April 2017 BHX 30481 vs 24391 for EMA

From 10k behind to 6k ahead. There were other examples to where we were behind last year and are now ahead.
I think EMA should be really worried.Their passenger growth was built on the reluctance of BHX to accommodate
the the low cost airlines. With BHX now aggressively pursuing these airlines the lack of facilities and poor public transport links will start to tell.

Shame for EMA. Lovely little airport. One too many airports in the area with EMA, DSA, LAB and HUY. Not enough PAX to go round. Now with Jet 2 at BHX .....

To be fair it could not be described as a little airport by anyone under the flight path when the freighters are arriving.

Some of the main holiday routes from the CAA Stats for April.

Palma aside the arrival of Jet2 has clawed BHX back ahead of EMA, hopefully the May numbers will be even better as the Jet2 schedule got into full swing.

It'll be interesting to see how the figures look next year as Birmingham looks to be losing Norwegian and Vueling capacity to ALC, AGP and TFS, hopefully the Jet2 increases will equal out the losses.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

If you’re tired of takeoffs, you’re tired of life.
49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
