Let's get real here. If there was an interview with the CEO of BHX dealing with long-haul opportunities, he would be lacking credibility if he did not say his catchment area did not extend to Manchester, also Leeds, Bristol, Cardiff and the Home Counties.

And in making that statement i also hope he would stress the distinct advantages of BHX in terms of accessibility ie motorways and rail.

The MAN CEO simply stated that he consisiders anywhere within a 2hr drive of Manchester was potentially in there long haul catchment area and said that extends as far south as Birmingham. He did not single Brum out as he also identified Yorkshire, North Wales etc all perfectly reasonable really given the lack of direct services from elsewhere other than London in our case. I'm sure he must be well aware of the amount of traffic that runs up the M6 to MAN daily just to Florida alone.

With the inability of Birmingham Airport to sustain a network robust enough for it's immediate catchment area not to consider alternative airports I am certainly not surprised. Florida has been mentioned and was a key target back in 2012 yet they failed to secure anything to MCO. Now we are in a situation where even the likes of New York and Toronto are unserved (something that would have been considered inconceivable not too long ago) meaning many more passengers are getting increasingly used to using other airports. Even within Europe the failure to secure a growing base from Ryanair or easyjet means that many popular city break destinations remain absent and some of those that we do have are massively overpriced when compared to what is on offer from elsewhere.

When it comes to ambition I fear that may have left when Mr Kehoe did. We had some golden years during his tenure with more airlines and destinations arriving than I have ever known before. The scale of his ambition was also evident in his vision for the airport site and how it could have linked directly in with HS2. In the 18 months or so since he has gone things sadly seem to have reverted to type with the icing on the cake being the ridiculously unambitious master plan. For context Luton could hit the 18mppa marker next year, BHX have predicted the same number by 2033!

If I was the CEO of any airport within a couple of hours of Birmingham I would see the region as easy pickings at the moment.

Early days for Mr Barton as big changes take time, although I think we are all more than a little eager to hear something outlining his vision for the future.

Trying hard not to be pedantic , inferring is not the same as implying which is an explicit statement or fact.In other words it is the supposition of the reader (me) in this case.

You mention Luton reaching 18 mppa. Who was their CEO?

Barton would not have taken on BHX without the ability to kick ass and reinstate PK's big ambition. It will take time and the B word aside 2020 I think will be a busy time for cake.

I hope you are right and one of the cakes has a hint of orange ?

I suppose it may depend if said CEO has similar backing this time around. We can but hope.
If he does not have the backing some of the board should resign. The airport is as much about the city than it is a transport facility. Considering the board includes who represent the city and its economic environs if they donnot get behind ambition them they have no place on the board or any other form of decision making.

They will back him.

Can you blame them if they are cautious? They appear to have fully backed the previous CEO but that progress disappeared in a puff of smoke as indeed did the CEO,.coincidently or not just before it all started to go tits up.

You are not losing the plot Scottie Dog, I get the same and I have tried several different browsers. I suspect that the web site navigation folders have been set up but the data files isn't populated correctly. I am sure that they can fix it quickly in the morning and you should be able to view the complete list

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
