Wow only 2,112 pax between BHX and EDI, and in the time up to the summer peak. That's like 5-6x 737 in the month!!!

Ryanair are launching several new routes from EDI this winter so if BHX does manage to overtake I doubt it will be for long. Hopefully next year things might change.

Larnaca +23, Paphos +29, Chania +213, Heraklion +40, Preveza +37, Rhodes +18, Skiathos +25, Naples +68, Malta +56, Faro +62, Alicante +29, Girona +256, Ibiza +53, Menorca +27, Malaga +39, Palma +12, Reus +215, Lanzarote +29, Fuerteventura +20, Gran Canaria +27, Tenerife +27, Burgas +23, Hurghada +8.

Those numbers show that the extra holiday capacity is being utilised.

Luxembourg saw 2752 (almost 500 more than MAN), with those numbers it's a shame to see it go. BMIR saw almost a thousand passengers on Graz and Nuremburg but Gothenburg is their standout route seeing 1441 pax. Prague was +13, Bucharest +44, Madrid +12 and Sofia +215, good to see the extra capacity being filled. Porto had 5395 pax which seems healthy.

Ashgabad was up 5%, Dubai +8% but Doha down 21%. Qatar were also down 13% at MAN so I can only assume that the dates of Ramadan are a factor? Air India were +53% on Amritsar and +43% on Delhi.

Thomson saw Punta Cana +96, Cancun +41 and Montego Bay +102. Whenever they add capacity it always sells which makes it so frustrating that we can't get a second 787.

Qatar may also be down as they did actually carry quite a few pax onwards to the countries they have now been banned from. I know for example a lot of pax fly MAN-DOH-DXB (I know there are direct flights but this routing is also a very popular one).

Indeed, UK-DOH-DXB is/was commonly the cheapest way to get to DXB, and ironically, was a lot cheaper than just flying UK-DOH!!!! this was especially the case for Business travel!!!

This will certainly be to EKs benefit!

Yet at EDI they have had a slight rise in passenger numbers!
And again UA BHX-EWR is higher than MAN-EWR - but we get the chop !
Problem for BHX is LHR is so close so United's pax will probably go there and there was no competition for United so no chance the pax will just go to another airline. Wheras at MAN there is a high chance United will lose all their pax to VS AA and TCX so that could be why they choose MAN unfortunately for United they don't have a codeshare partner or joint venture partner for the UK like Delta and American who could've continued the route with them.

I think looking at the data, something interesting is happening when looking at the MEB3 and their regional routes. It’s a very mixed bag! At BHX for example, QR face a major drop of 21% whilst there is zero drop in capacity from last year. That said, even though EK operate less flights than last year, they receive an increase of 8%! Yet at the same time, competitor such as AI see a stunning increase of 48% on last year, again with zero increase in capacity.

So, as ever, we know June is a low season for the MEB3 due to Ramadam, However, even when you factor in London, QR grew by only 15 pax from the UK to Doha. Could this be a mix of Ramadam plus the political events in Qatar? BHX and MAN figs would suggest this but EDI and LHR don’t! Then you have pretty big drops at EDI and MAN for EY???

Seems like a myriad of things are at play but one thing that seems to be clear. Be it the rise in competition from other airlines, religious holidays and political upheaval, it would appear that the MEB3 don’t have it all their own way now!

You may need to factor in the British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand.
20,000 to 25,000 rugby fans would make a difference. The English and Welsh fans packages would've been routed through LHR but the Scottish fans would've gone through EDI.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
