Don't forget the the over reliance for whatever reasons on British Airways. This seemed to stunt growth for many years. It could be argued the airport has done well to maintain its passenger figures and now start to grow them after the lose of by far it's biggerts arline at the time.
I think that we're only just starting to see a recovery from this.
Not embracing the loco revolution was a big mistake, just imagine what a huge base Easyjet may have had by now if BHX had done the deal with them.
Things have definitely got better in recent years with Ryanair finally growing along with the additions of Wizz, Norwegian and Vueling. Of course not forgetting Jet2 who are the shining light at the moment. There is still much to do though, I just look at EMA and wonder if we'll ever get back the likes of Pisa, Riga, Split, Bergamo and Valencia.
