Data from Manchester Airport, FR24 and CAA sources

The numbers at all airports look dire. The table showing the info it does is good.

I've just been looking in an old copy of Major Airports of the World and Manchester's annual passengers for 1981 were 4,875,164. Compare that with the moving year to the end of February 2021 of 3,694,227and all I can say is OUCH.

Hopefully March will be the last month of negative figures before we start to see a slow upturn - I'm not expecting anything spectacular for 2021.

The goverment are saying now that as things as they are will mean a opening up of a lot more destinations. But if things get worse again then any ones guess.

March stats available on the airport website - at last a glimmer of light as the figures are actually slightly better compared with February
when taken as a percentage change.

View attachment 23245when taken as a percentage change.

Stats must be at or close to the nadir now, as we're more than twelve months into the C-19 induced collapse in traffic, though the numbers may bump along the bottom for a while yet (especially with Pakistan now joining the 'red list'). We could never have imagined a Moving Annual Total of 2,844,918 passengers. A year ago we were debating (in horror) whether the lockdown would take passenger throughput below 20 million for the year ... well, those who argued that it could do were vindicated :) .... but I don't think anyone called the abject misery of this.

The only positive I can think of is that I'd have expected a collapse in throughput of almost 90% to be accompanied by the Armageddon of WW3. I suppose that a global pandemic is at least preferable to that ...

At least when "normal" returns, the percentage growth stats will look sensational - though still only taking us to a much lower absolute throughput figure than before. But just hitting the sustained upslope will feel like euphoria.

Rather belatedly here are is the analysis for March:

Europe/Domestic - my first attempt at this new chart.
FR24 only showed a single flight to Budapest, but the CAA data disputes this. Additionally at present Belfast City has not published data.

I thought I would do a quick comparison of percentage changes between 2019 and 2021 - the end columns.

Yes, I know they make sad reading, but please remember that I've assumed that the increases for 2021 against 2020 are only very small. Going forward, as actual data becomes available I'll hopefully be able to give better news. If I ever get time I may even do a comparison against 2001 (a 20 year difference).

5 trips done and 45 miles walked,. Also the RAF has had 4 F35B Lightning follow me yesterday and today....
My plans got altered slightly as one of the minibus companies had to cancel 3 trips and refunded me but will be getting nice discount when I rebook them.
wondering why on my "holidays" I choose to get up 2 hours earlier than when going to work. 6 trips in 6 days soon coming up with 3 more days to sort out
