Hainan would be an "obvious" fit with all other components already in place in terms of the airport relationship, marketing at both ends, travel agency tours eg Wendy Wu etc.

That looks like a net reduction in seats BUT hold this thought.

As they are getting more cuddly with MAG is it possible the net reduction "might" just be mopped up by say a 4 a week Shanghai instead?

Air China seem to have taken their eye off the ball and with seemingly a lot of horsetrading taking place re slots is it possible HU picked these up?

On the downside they may just be dazzled by acess to Heathrow.

Inscrutable!

Air China seem to have dropped PVG-MAN plans - but Hainan are expanding their footprint at PVG, with application for:

4fpw PVG-ZRH, 3fpw CTU-PVG-TIJ and 3fpw PVG-CTU-IKA. I would love a CTU-PVG-MAN. If slots really are the issue, why could BCN be launched, China Eastern expanding and Hainan also?

Let's remember as well that at smaller airports who have gained a PEK link and been successful (BOS), HU have also branched out to PVG-BOS, with two 787s on the ground at Boston some days.

The noises made by HU are positive and the service clearly attracts a lot of incoming custom. Let's get PEK daily and build from there...

Yes, exactly. I will only be pleased though when the daily service is fully bookable on the Hainan website.

My point was that if slots are the issue at PVG, how can all these new routes be launching? And, also, that Hainan could be an option for a Shanghai link in the future, should they gain the rights to the route.

Hainan now confirmed as daily from July 1st:

So did I - it may just be an error by their social media team, or a one-off visit...

They are making a pretty big deal of it being 789. It is great news and there is also news of a brand new business class product on their 787-9s beginning in May - a reverse herringbone product, with aisle access at every seat - this could attract even more business travellers to use the service. They are also introducing a new menu on the Manchester-Beijing route (see attached file), which *could* signify the brand new dreamliners being used on the route:[/ATTACH]View attachment 5016

I'm not convinced. Given the same social media feed captioned a photo 'our B787-10 taking off from Beijing' (it's not in passenger service with any airline yet), I'm not putting my hopes up.

Website states B787-8 at the moment, so that's what Ill expect for now.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
