Re: Birmingham Airport Webcam

Wouldn't it be great if all airports could have one on the top of the control tower!

It would be awesome, however not many people in high places at airports such as BHX really care about us plane enthusiasts. Shame really, however we still have our good plane spotting place at the end of the new runway extension.

Cant stop watching that LAX one though, really fascinating stuff.

Send him the link to the LAX webcam?

I will and i think i will bring up whilst im on the subject of "viewing area" for spotters and see what he says.

Heathrow has a good webcam although it is not in the airport grounds but on top of a building near the airport. The thing about a BHX webcam (and viewing area) is that, are we a busy enough airport to keep people entertained? MAN has the attraction of daily jumbos and A380s as well as many other heavies.

Its not all about size you know. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

I think BHX in the early morning and late afternoon can be very entertaining.

I think a webcam could appeal to a lot of people - spotters, people wanting to get a feel for what it's like to be in air traffic control. I can't imagine it'd be that expensive.

I'd have thought outside the control tower (or somewhere near) would be a good fit. I wonder what Mr Kehoe thinks?

I contacted Paul Kehoe about it and he said:

Yes it can be done as we stream live shots into the airside departure restaurants.

The IT team have lots on at the moment so this won't be a priority for the next six months at least.

Best wishes

Paul

I'm sure after 6 months they'll have other priorities, but at least he replied...

If i won the lottery i would defo look into this and try and get it set up for you guys, i would love it.

Do you think it would be best positioned onto one of those railings on the ATC tower looking over the runway ?????

I bet it wouldnt even cost that much, any tech people around. How much would a BHX webcam cost ?????????

Airport Webcam needs to be operable in all conditions and accessible to onsite management. LAX has frequent 'freezes', Copenhagen has user interface as does Zurich.

Placement is important, suggest a position at the Fire/emergency compound or at Monarch facility.

As for costs, may I suggest an offer to the Head Honcho to allow a 'crowdfunding' initiative to see if it is a viable enterprise, one that costs the airport little in cash terms but increases exposure of the airport globally? The initial costs are equipment and installation and then the volunteer army ( with necessary security clearance ) to manage the webcam service.

I would love this to emerge as I am unable due to disabilities to visit the airport as I would wish but a webcam would enlighten my life greatly!!

Can we all get this initiative moving please?

I sent off an email to Mr Kehoe a few weeks ago but he was on his holidays. Will try again. It's something that should be possible anyway.

Any movement or progress on a webfeed? I signed up to the AIRLIVE service but found it to be useless but not as bad as Heathrow. The SXM feed from PTZtv is wonderful, I found the recent hurricane Dorian footage fascinating, and the KDC10 was rare visitation as a consequence together with the Dutch and French navies landing at the cruise port. Sint Maarten is on my bucket list. But I long to see BHX as it is now as I am unable to attend in person.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
