Great news! Is this the first time Bucharest has been served from BHX?

I am pretty certain this is the first time Bucharest has been served from BHX.
Many years ago,Tarom operated some summer charters using IL18s to Constanta,but I don't think the capital has been served before.
Great news.Things are really hotting up now aren't they!!!

Things are really starting to go off big style, and still lots of time for next years routes to be announced, more great new routes from BHX.

Wizz is really quite an interesting airline and I really do hope that this is the start of things to come for Wizz at BHX. Ive been looking at the Wizz timetable for Summer 2016, and given the fact that Wizz didn't exist at BHX in Summer 2015, BHX is now the joint 4th biggest destination for Wizz within the UK, after Luton, Doncaster and Glasgow...

Ive had a look at the timetable and this is how the wiz summer schedule looks for the UK....

Doncaster = 39x weekly departures (62,500 seats a month)
Bucharest (3x weekly), Gdansk (5x weekly), Katowice (7x weekly), Kosice (3x weekly), Lublin (3x weekly), Poznan (5x weekly), Riga (3x weekly), Vilnius (3x weekly), Warsaw (4x weekly), Wroclaw (3x weekly)

Glasgow = 18x weekly departures (28,800 seats a month)
Bucharest (2x weekly), Budapest (2x weekly), Gdansk (3x weekly), Katowice (2x weekly), Lublin (2x weekly), Poznan (2x weekly), Vilnius (2x weekly), Warsaw (3x weekly)

Birmingham = 9x weekly departures (14,400 seats a month)
Bucharest (2x weekly), Budapest (2x weekly), Poznan (2x weekly), Warsaw (3x weekly)

Bristol = 9x weekly departures (14,400 seats a month)
Katowice (3x weekly), Kosice (2x weekly), Sofia (2x weekly), Warsaw (2x weekly)

Liverpool = 9x weekly departures (14,400 seats a month)
Gdansk (4x weekly), Riga (2x weekly), Warsaw (3x weekly)

Aberdeen = 4x weekly departures (6,400 seats a month)
Gdansk (2x weekly), Warsaw (2x weekly)

Belfast = 4x weekly departures (6,400 seats a month)
Katowice (2x weekly), Vilnius (2x weekly)

...based on the above, if we can emulate the growth of Wizz at Glasgow, then this would be a great opportunity for BHX. They plan to take on Ryanair as the primary airline in eastern Europe, and well, BHX is theirs to take as they wish.... I know I wish Wizz all the best at BHX!!!

Chuffed to bits with Bucharest. I thought this one may come a little further down the line but it sure is a great addition.

Thanks to nwoody for the lists above, it's very interesting. There is definitely more to come from Wizz and I think the BHX schedule is set to resemble the GLA schedule.

I'm not sure about Prague though. Wizz don't have a huge presence there with 5 or 6 Italian routes and then just Luton and Tel Aviv. I can think of two airlines that would be perfect for Prague though :good:

Wizz Announces New Birmingham to Bucharest Route

30th September 2015

Wizz Air has announced a new route from Birmingham to Bucharest. The route will commence on 22 May and will be operated with two weekly flights on Wednesdays and Sundays.

With this new service, WIZZ is now offering four routes to three countries from Birmingham. Tickets on Wizz Air’s new Bucharest route are on sale starting today and can be booked at wizzair.com from GBP 28.49*.

Tamara Mshvenieradze, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air said: "We are thrilled today to be adding a fourth route to Wizz Air’s Birmingham network. We have launched our first flights from Birmingham to Poland and Hungary only a couple of weeks ago and today add a third country reachable on Wizz Air’s low fares from Birmingham. The new route to Bucharest provides an opportunity for our business and leisure travelers to explore the capital of Romania on our low fares from only GBP 28.49*. Likewise, our low fares are attracting more visitors to the West Midlands, stimulating tourism and hospitality sectors as well as strengthening business relations between the two countries.”

The country of Romania is not currently served directly from Birmingham so this gives our passengers even more choice from their local airport.

I hope youre right. whilst id love a Wizz base at BHX, that's unlikely to happen, at least anytime soon. bt when you look at the likes of Glasgow and Doncaster, it just goes to show what growth could occur at bhx without based a/c...

I look forward to seeing what the final bhx summer16 schedule may look like if this isn't yet finalised!

With so much spare capacity at off peak times Wizz are the perfect fit to make the most of it.

I'd say more destinations are on the way. I think it's only a matter of time before we see more routes to Poland, Lublin could be a good contender. It's then a matter of whether they want to take on Ryanair with Katowice and/or Gdansk, also Vilnius could go up against Ryanairs service to Kaunas. Taking on Ryanair is something they are doing at Bristol going head to head to Warsaw so it's not out of the question.

Now we have Bucharest I'm personally hoping for Riga, add in Kosice and I think we'd all be happy :smile:

Bucharest seems to have gone from the drop down menu on the mobile site, it's still bookable on the main site though. Could be updating going on but one to keep an eye on. LTN has also gone.

Will be interesting to watch.

Even at a combined 4 weekly, due to fare wars, such a niche route was never going to sustain 2 low cost carriers in the long term anyway.

It's probably just an error for now, but, if one doesn't blink in the future, I would be surprised.

The growth at BHX has to be applauded, but, there are some routes that will have issues with performance (and before anyone says it, I think MAN may have some issues next year too, particularly to the BEneLUX area with up to 25 daily flights).

Wizz is one of the largest airlines in Europe and since they added BUD and WAW quickly added more destinations and I believe from other forums both routes already started are performing very well. There is a huge Eastern European community in the West Midlands including Romania who until now had to travel to Luton to visit home. 😀

I'd say it's only a matter of time before Budapest gets a frequency increase.

I think we would have seen one around the same time that Warsaw was increased but with BUD-LTN going 3x daily, with the potential of A321's, I think we may have to wait a little longer.

well both WAW and BUD were over the 80% LF in their first month last month which is pretty good for a new brand/airline into the region. That said, RYR operate similar eastern European routes with loads over 90% so we need a little more growth just yet!

I just hope we don't have to wait much longer for more routes/frequency increases....

Apparently a Wizz A321 is due next Wed from LTN, it's doing a press launch there then heading up here.

Possibly why LTN is on the mobile site with one date available on the 24th.

but as quoted on another website... why would wiz fly a A321 up to BHX? an announcement? increased capacity on a flight that day.. are there any flights from Wizz on the 24th?

It's a good question, at the moment Budapest is on Sat and Tue with Warsaw on Mon and Fri so nothing on a Wed at the moment.

It could be part of a publicity tour, it would be interesting to know if it's visiting BRS, LPL, DSA etc.

It's due out again at 17:50.

It will be interesting to know why it's visiting, I can't see them going to all this trouble to announce a new route and if it was a promotional tour you would expect the likes of LPL and DSA to be included. All I can think of is a possible A321 on BUD-BHX?
