Mr Kehoe has said in an interview today that there will be charters this summer, so we certainly don't need 'ifs' it's now 'when'.

I also see on the MAN thread that our Mr K has been doing another round of MAN bashing. I must admit sometimes he is a bit cringe worthy, however you have got to admit he never gives up and maybe, just maybe airlines may take note.

Airline fleets lists that they have 2x A330-200, B-8019 and B-8221.

Wikipedia suggests that they have an A330-300 arriving new from Airbus this year, it would be nice to see that at some point.

Indeed it would be nice Ray, i like the A330 aircraft. And i like the Capital Airlines livery, very colourful.

If they take note, what do they think? Could be taken either way...

Scratch last post, not HNA but Guangzhou development company are on the biz jet. Still should be heading to BHX after MAN some time in the next few days.

aa:“Over the past two years we have seen the airport host serveral charter flights to Beijing. In 2013 China Southern Airlines ran a series of three return flights while last year Hainan Airlines commenced a short series of twice-weekly returns. Has the airport got anything in place for this year?”

PK: “We are hopeful that we are very close to securing a carrier that will be in place this summer to operate to China. One thing we do know is that if it is a charter operation you can pretty much guarantee that you’ll fill the aircraft.”

aa: “Would this service be to Beijing? Or could we see more points in China served?”

PK: “I am confident that we will see more than just a Beijing service this summer.”

'If' it's a charter operation, the rumours may be true then.

this appears to be the largest space to watch for a long time.... but looking forward to seeing what comes of it!

I am sure the team at BHX know the details regarding China and the airlines involved.

But if you were the head of a major airline, would you want to issue a launch press release in the same week that Emirates begin their A380 service and Qatar launch Doha - all with massive TV coverage?

A press release must have stand-alone impact and that is why i believe the coming days willl see a major announcement - or two....

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm interesting that Mr K says "IF" a charter.

Could BHX be on the verge of securing a Scheduled flight to China ?? Is this now allowed under the china air agreements ??

I think the context that Mr Kehoe was talking was more like charters are almost guaranteed to be full, scheduled less likely to be so.

I don't think he was questioning if it was going to be a charter or not.

well USER, remember these 'charters' were requested for via the CAAC... the other two seasons of charteres did not require approval from CAAC..... however, the MAN-BEJ (Hainan) and MAN-PVG (China Air) did... i.e both sechuled services... with no evidence, I think BHX are negotiating the possibility that these charters COULD be the start of a scheduled services.

They did need approval from the CAAC Woody, it's just the last 2 times China Southern and Hainan applied for the permissions, it wasn't picked up by Airlineroute which gave it the high profile that Beijing Capital have this time.

I've just gone through all of the CAAC applications from Nov 15 (when Capital Airlines applied) back through to the start of 2013 and can find no trace of anything from China Southern or Hainan to Birmingham.

Maybe someone else has a link to the applications?

Not all the applications are on there Ray. For a while the Hainan MAN-PEK did not appear but I believe it now does.

I'm not going to post the whole article, or a link, as it's a little pathetic and I can see the way the conversation would go. I'd rather keep the discussion about the flights.

This is a direct quote from Paul Kehoe

“Following the huge success of these flights, negotiations with a Chinese airline have progressed well and the airline has now filed slots to operate scheduled flights between Birmingham and Beijing and Birmingham and Shanghai this summer.

“We are finalising arrangements with the airline and will very shortly make an announcement so that passengers living and working in our region will be able to book flights direct to China from Birmingham.”

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
