I found out today that Clive Maltby who ran the LBA Pass Office for a number of years has sadly passed away. He will have been known by a large number of people at the airport. He died late last year in Hospital.

I remember Clive well. A decent sort.

However, when I saw the title of this thread, I thought the airport had been closed down !

Denise Atkinson the former Leeds councillor (Labour) who also served as chair of Leeds Bradford Airport Ltd in the 1990's has sadly died.

Thanks for posting that Lbaspotter, I didn't know. I actually knew Denise quite well from the days when I worked at LBA. She definitely had a colourful character.

During her days working as the Lord Mayor of Leeds I seem to recall denise pulling up to offer my sister a lift in her mayoral car stopping off at the chippy on the way. Sums Denise up really. Most other councillor who have been the Lord Mayor of Leeds have had a stiff upper lip, definitely not Denese.

RIP Denise Atkinson

That is really sad news. I met her several times and there is no doubt that her arrival on the board at LBA brought about a change in attitude towards the airport within the Council. She was a really lovely genuine lady. RIP Denise.

Oh my God that is such sad news. I knew Andrew for many years having worked with him at LBA back in the late 1990s. He was a tremendous character and will be sadly missed. RIP Andrew.

During the time that I was at LBA I think Andrew worked in the BMI Diamond Lounge and possibly for BMI as cabin crew.

Yes, Andrew was a fixture for many years. If i remember correctly he worked as ground staff in the days of BA. I think he then left to be a postman when BA pulled out but came back to work at the airport eventually.

Charlie Cartmen - "Gentle Giant" has sadly passed away.

Charlie worked at LBA around 1997-2008

He retired from the airport around 2008 (?)

His funeral will be held on Tuesday 14th August at 2.15pm at Skipton Baptist Church followed by a Cremation at Skipton Crematorium. His wake will be at the Railway pub in Skipton for anybody who wishes to pay their respects.

#RIP #CharlieCartmen you were a good bloke.

Gavin Lyons

It is with regret that I learned that Gavin passed away a few days ago.

Some of you will remember Gavin as an aircraft enthusiast during his school days, then he started work with Servisair and progressed to employment with the Airport Company as an Airside Duty Officer before being promoted to more senior roles within LBA. Gavin later used his invaluable experience as an Aviation Consultant and included a time at Kent Manston Airport.

Gavin was a good guy and will be greatly missed. Best wishes are passed to his wife Jenny and his family.

Gavin's funeral will take place on Tuesday 12 February 2019 at 1415hrs at Holy Trinity Church, Town Lane, Idle, Bradord, BD10 8NS.

That's too bad. Gavin was my boss for a fair while when I was a LBA employee. Far too young.

R.I.P. gavin it only seems like yesterday that you turned up at the B.I.A.S. meetings.

A few years ago I was stood at Guiseley trainstation when I spotted 'Gavin'. I went up for a chat with him asking him how life at LBA was only to be told that he wasn't actually Gavin but his identical twin! Dohhhh!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
