Its
Sky Blues v the Blues or is it the Blues v Sky Blues. Whichever let's hope for a cracking game and a team who play at st Andrews coming out on top. If it is a replay the home team who played away at home will play at home, and the away team who play at home away will play away at their away home.

Confused...you will be after this week's episode.of soap...

It's not that simple the Blues fans cannot go in their home end (Tilton) and the Coventry fans cannot go in their home end as the Blues fans who think they are at home are allocated the away end (Railway end plus the main stand) meanwhile the Cov fans get the Kop but might be allowed in the home end or will it be the away end (Tilton) depending on numbers meanwhile part of the away end (Railway) containing the away fans who think they are at home is closed to prevent the away fans who also think they are at home need to be segregated.

Then there's the offside rule !

And they will do it all again, but the home fans who were away can at least be at home whilst the home fans who were at home but really away will be away from home at their home.

I too look forward to seeing it completed but isn't it replacing a high rise office block that was already on the site?
So an increase in available office space but not in proportion to its size.

However it was an empty office block as Nat West vacated the building several years before its demolition.

I am not a fan of showcasing prestige projects.

And that quote leaves me slightly confused then Ianbutty as only last week you thought it was amazing that permission had been given to Brum's new tallest tower which has very little affordable housing.

As a Cov fan its really sad to see the situation with the Ricoh, but this season they’re on a good run of form so in that aspect i’m very happy at the moment! Hoping to go and watch the replay

Tell me about it GliderPilot!! We need SISU to leave the club asap! I used to be a season ticket holder for around 30 years, used to go to all home games at Highfield Road and the Ricoh, the decision to move to the Ricoh and not actually owing the stadium was a disaster for the club, and has had such a negative effect on the Sky Blues over the last 10 years.

oh well at least I still have good memories of going to Wembley for the 1987 FA Cup final win! (y)(y)

At least it has some. Showcasing projects are ones that provide no community benefit. I would prefer to see a full quota of affordable housing every time. People make a city not buildings. To exclude all communities from the benefits of growth is poor planning in the extreme. Sadly too many blocks are being built without affordable housing. In Birmingham c14% are affordable. Far too low, but better than zero which is happening elsewhere. Those are the vanity projects where height plays out to be more important than homelessness or first time buyers getting into the housing market.

Now that the CAA restricted height barrier has been broken, I am sure that if the city council said zero affordable is acceptable we would hit 700 feet. But I would rather have 300 feet with a lot of affordable than 700 with nothing.

Personally I don't like the idea of "affordable" housing in city centres. UK city centres tend not to be very accommodating with regards to schools, dentists, doctors surgeries and recreation for those who can't afford it. We should learn lessons from the past to avoid erecting buildings that inevitably lead to deprivation and unacceptable living standards for families, the elderly and young people in particular.

The problem with increasing the amount of affordable housing in these tall residential towers is that they cost a lot of money to build and developers will only pursue them if they can make a return on them. If the council mandated that all residential schemes contained a higher percentage of affordable housing, many of the tall towers we're now seeing proposed for Birmingham wouldn't exist - the developers wouldn't be able to get a significant, if any, return and so wouldn't build them.

The likes of 100 Broad Street (193m) and One Eastside (155m) are landmark towers for Birmingham, and IMO shouldn't be subject to requiring a certain % of affordable housing. These are the kind of projects that attract attention and future investment to Birmingham, and not the place for affordable housing.

Perhaps the local councils should collaborate with developers to build affordable housing, and perhaps make it a requirement before planning permission is granted for taller residential schemes.

It is a requirement before planning permission is granted. Planning permission is only granted when a decision notice is issued and in most large schemes that requires the section 106 agreement, through which the affordable housing is secured, to be signed.

It is pretty much always the developer that will seek to renegotiate a section 106 agreement after planning permission is granted.

The requirements are all laid out in planning policy both nationally and locally. Really tall towers however stretch viability and whilst a welcome edition to the skyline, if no affordable housing is secured they are off limits to.the ordinary brummie and you create a city centre of exclusive living, which in the long term is not sustainable.

But as I say, lower and less exclusive would work for me. But supertall with at least some affordable is better than none at all.

Russian Cargo Planes included jet flying boats on Discovery Turbo right now. And some wierd Boeings. Genius. Modern planes seem so full by comparison to these amazing and totally useless beasts.

I am just enquirying, Coventry Airport use to have high volume of Jumbo Flights and Cargo.
Do these now use Birmingham Cargo and why on earth did they close Coventry Airport it was superb and just needed a terminal building to expand in flights.

Coventry airport (Bagington) was re opened in 2010 having closed in 2008, as for jumbo flights or whatever never in a million years. I think the largest regular aircraft to operated were Thomson Fly 737s and maybe Wizz A320s for a short while

With a 6,500 ft runway the airport is a general aviation airfield and worth a visit for aviation enthusiasts particularly the Midlands Aircraft Museum.

I think most of the freight flights moved to East Midlands. Thomson Fly did occasional fly a B757 into Coventry, thik that was the largest aircraft to land there. Once Thomson Fly and Wizz pulled out that was the end of commercial flights, now its just general aviation.

West Atlantic cargo used to fly frequently into Coventry and they had some facilities there too. I think their offices and hangar were at Coventry. Most of their flight ops are at East Mids now, not sure about the buildings though.

I can see Coventry Airport being a housing estate in the future and that makes me really sad

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
