If you are thinking of Italy then I’d definitely recommend Verona - a great little city for a short break as it’s not very big, Lake Garda is only twenty minutes away on the train and a day in Venice is easily doable to if you fancy it.

I agree that Stockholm is a beautiful city, but it can be expensive. If anyone does visit it, then I highly recommend the Vasa museum.
Another point, is I don't believe there are currently any direct flights from BHX. Looking online, Eurowings were showing flights from Mar23.

Kevin

Stockholm re starts on Sunday October 30th, twice a week through winter on Sundays/Wednesdays with Ryanair

Barcelona would keep you busy for few days as indeed would the eternal city of Rome.

Bruge beautifully preserved with plenty of waffles and endless choccy. Train from Brussels airport direct from the arrivals hall journey time is just over an hour.

Greetings folks. Last evening, Monday 24 October 2022, I was interrupted from my studies by Peggy, to an unusual noise outside. On letting her outside to investigate or kill, as to her desire, I noticed an aircraft on the Honily approach to BHX with significant but unusual noise from the engines and at a lower altitude than is normal. Regrettably, ongoing issues with the internet meant I was unable to use my FR24 membership to gain information.

This was at around 22:00 thus this timetable traffic, one assumes. Has there been any report of an incident as non has been reported on mainstream media?

Thank you.

Thank you Sir, but no it was definitely gas turbine, possibly A320 family for Jet2 or 737 for Ryanair as is usual at that time. It really sounded sick and was much lower. Sometimes EMA traffic routes my way but very rare.

My location is midway Droitwich and Warwick at Astwood Bank. Traffic follows Bristol Channel to Worcestershire for Honily.

There was a V-22 Osprey at BHX yesterday, although that was around lunchtime. I get them over my house occasionally and they do sound very unusual - nothing like a helicopter. The first time I heard one, I was expecting to see an older transport aircraft such as a C-5 or KC-10. It had a similar 'buzz' to it that the early high bypass turbofans have. But, unless there was one operating much later it would seem unlikely. Although, if it was, then being military it may well have been at a lower level than the regular air traffic.

Can you describe the sounds I could run a Check

The Grinding could be a Buzzsaw noise Meaning IAE Powered A320 Family potentially.

The only IAE Aircraft that went over Honiley close to 10PM was was Jet2 Smartlynx Airbus A321 flight LS1264 from Mahon YL-LCQ no emergency so maybe was the IFE Engines they can sound weird at times

The smoke wont cause any problems whatsoever. Modern airliners will use SIDS and STARS (Standard Instrument Departures and Standard Arrivals), which are pre-programmed into the flight management computer. The autopilot will then follow this route until (for landing), the aircraft is established on the ILS (Instrument Landing System). Again, the autopilot will follow this down to decision height, where the pilots decide whether to commit to landing, or go around (runway and lights need to be visible by the decision height in order to continue with the approach).
With regard to any lasers at public displays, these will be very highly regulated in which way they can be pointed.

I saw your post on Fog It is fog and Smoke combined I think
Generally known as 'smog'. It's been responsible for many thousands of deaths in the 1950's and 1960's (due to breathing difficulties), until the introduction of smoke free coal.

On a different note, I remember many years ago, being in the viewing lounge at BHX on bonfire night. There was a Lufthansa flight on approach and I was listening in on my radio. I remember the pilot asking in a heavy German accent 'vhat are all zees fires ve are seeing?'
