Generally known as 'smog'. It's been responsible for many thousands of deaths in the 1950's and 1960's (due to breathing difficulties), until the introduction of smoke free coal.

On a different note, I remember many years ago, being in the viewing lounge at BHX on bonfire night. There was a Lufthansa flight on approach and I was listening in on my radio. I remember the pilot asking in a heavy German accent 'vhat are all zees fires ve are seeing?'

Haha classic Yeah Smog still looks it a bit today the Smog on Sunday Morning was thick Could barely see lights of Moxley or High rose

Have found an old photograph from 1975 but despite deleting all my past pictures ( or at least I think I have) still can't upload it. Any ideas?

Regarding the fog I grew up in the late sixties/seventies in a village about 5 miles from the airport. Our house was brand new but was still built with an open fireplace. In winter the fog or smog would sometimes be that dense that you literally couldn't see an outstretched hand and when you got home your clothes would smell of smoke. We were normally out on our pushbikes if not at the airport and only got around because we were so familiar with our surroundings. Listening to surveillance radar approaches on the radio was quite a tense experience, if they got down on a 33 approach you'd just be able to hear the thrust reversers, if they didn't and had to go around or overshoot as it tended to be called back then you'd hear the engines spool up to full power.
With central heating now largely replacing coal fires and possibly climate change playing a part those 'peasoupers' are largely a thing of the past.

Watching the Germany v Japan game, I noticed a lone flag draped over a wall on the opposite side of the stadium from the TV cameras. It took me a while to be sure, but it says 'WALSALL FC' on it. I've seen Walsall play at home, many, many times but I had never seen this flag. I found it after a short web search -

Great to see Walsall represented in Qatar.

Surely, that's Spain. So probably the Spain v Costa Rica game not Germany v Japan.

I think there may be more to the WALSALL FC flag than first realised. It is basically the old Persian flag (pre Iranian Islamic revolution) that is being used by the protestors in Iran. I wont say any more on it, so as not to drag F4A into political problems.

That would depend on whether it's a B747- 100/200 series, or a -400. Also, the configuration could well have changed during the aircrafts service period.

747-400 prefabably the last configuration they were in I think in game my 747's have 496 seats with 400 in Economy, 60 In Bussiness and 36 in first class

A quick search on google will answer you question.

computer simulation games are not realistic, I can assure you the BA jumbos never had 400+ seats on them, and they had several different seating configurations :ROFLMAO:

I remember reading many years ago, that BHX closed on Christmas day in order to maintain it's status as a private right of way. I think that this was later reduced to closure for one hour. I'm not sure if the law has changed since, or BHX has changed it's policy, but Christmas day now has a good selection of flights.

As an aside I can remember clearly sometime back in the 1960’s when BHX was closed hearing a light aircraft take off on Christmas Day. G-APFV an Apache which was based at the time I believe, meandered it’s way north. Not sure what the law was then or now but I believe private flights may have been tolerated but as there was no ATC or fire cover they had to sign a waiver or similar to absolve the airport of liability in the event of a mishap !

I believe that the changes introduced to the Sunday trading legislation under Prime Minister Thatcher encouraged change throughout the economy and BHX, as a business embraced opportunities presented to them. The arrival of Emirates to the timetables ended the Christian dominance of British life and the British tradition of a two week closure of the nation over the xmas period.

Thoughts anyone?

Yes 2 days is enough (Christmas Day and Boxing Day).Christmas is too over done, but maybe that's me getting old. It now starts around Halloween and that should stop straight away. If I was prime minister, I would ban anything to do with Christmas until 1st December, lol. Thoughts anyone ? Can't wait until tomorrow when normal life slowly returns and back to work on Wednesday 😀

Shortest day has come and gone, I can smell the Spring air and daffodils poking through the soil already and the birds tweeting. Now that's more like it 😀

Cadbury's Cream Eggs will be bazk in the shops now, ready for Easter.

The difference with Easter is that it's not forced down your throat for 2/3 months of the year for the sake of 1 day. And even when Easter Sunday arrives, it's just like a normal bank holiday and life continues as normal. Fyi love Cadburys creme eggs 🤩🤩🤩

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
