I spent this morning on a trip up from Essex in Brum city centre. My daughter has been dreaming of a trip to the World's Biggest Primark and my Father's Day was partially complete with a trip there for her. It was impressive.

Parked at Brindley Place and walked across mainly with my 9 year old boy, he of the legend that is ....in describing a A380 said "it's like a sardine". Today his wisdom was "I like Birmingham because it is not London."

I am impressed with how the city is taking shape. Paradise looks amazing and human in scale. There have been complaints that there are not such tall towers as elsewhere, but I tell you what, busman's holiday bit, I prefer having open space and routes that connect people and buildings through complementary scale. I could not give a two cahoots for over tall buildings plonked here and there (has anyone seen the City of London recently? Yuk) where grandiose ego comes before place.

Brum is emerging as a prosperous homely and welcoming city, deserving of its status and on the up. On the ground it reminds me of Boston and Vancouver. Fresh clean and vibrant without being pretentious and claustrophobic. It culture is subtle. Food second to none and people the best.

Drove back to Solihull via Edgbaston and Moseley. No wonder it is known for its trees. Beautiful.

A grand half day out.

Difficult to say Brum x as I'm an oldy the past has a nostalgic pull for me and has led us to the present day and the future looks more than promising for the city he says optomisticly.

Why has the Rotunda got BULLRING displayed at the top? Just because it is close does not It's not part of the Bullring.

Because it was never finished.

I believe there was supposed to have been an led screen wrapped around the top of the building when it was refurbed but for whatever reason it didn't happen.

I'm sure that @Brum X will add more info.

Without being either a listed building or in possession of a preservation order, the Rotunda is fair game, expect it being adorned with Commonwealth Games media! BHX may manage to manicure the surrounding facility of the ATC tower or paint the grass or something...

Outstanding performance from the England Lionesses tonight (y)

France or USA will be a much tougher test but based on that showing I don't think anyone will take England lightly.

How good would it be to reach the final and beat Germany on penalties :D

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
