A hazy view of Londinium taken yesterday.

The one of Heathrow is a little clearer as we were almost overhead, the blur towards the top of the picture is due to heat from the engines.

I did get a picture of Gatwick but as I had to zoom quite a bit it's not the clearest of pictures.

Save the best view until last, Birminum, as one member of the cabin crew kept calling it :)

Sadly I was shooting towards the full sun :(

I'm so glad someone else notices that people from down souff do not regonise the "g" or "h "in Birmingham so it's anyone's guess how they would get on with Brummigem, nice photos though.

In the Mild Mild West it's often "Birningum"

In the Wild Wild West it's "Burrningham".

Pronunciation and use of the English language in the media in particular, is a pet hate of mine.
Birminum is just one word that really winds me up,and one of the worst offenders is a Midlands Today presenter.
The English language is dying. It is being replaced by text speak, the sort of language that is used on social media and mobile phones. A never ending series of hash-tags and emojis.
Also people seem to be less able to string a comprehensible sentence together, the use of the term, ‘you know’, every 10 seconds is particularly aggravating.
I dread to think how people will be communicating to each other in 50-100 years from now. I would not rule out returning to grunting a la Neanderthal man.
Then again, judging by the antics of politicians lately, I think we may already be at that stage.

I could write for an evening on the gradual strangulation of the English language. English might not have the beauty of French when spoken, although that is always a subjective view, and I don't mind regional accents. In fact, I applaud them and you can still speak English properly with a regional or national accent.

I'm finding that 'you know' is increasingly being replaced by 'like', particularly with the younger generation. On buses I sometimes amuse myself (I'm easily amused) by mentally counting the number of times the word 'like' is used by fellow passengers. They are often using their mobile phone at the time and users seem to need to shout or speak loudly when so doing, so it's impossible not to hear what is being said - at one end of the conversation anyway; unless you are using your own mobile phone at the time which I never do on buses and it's only a pay-as-you-go one anyway with no Internet connectivity.

Important stuff....

BHX is the third cheapest airport ( equal with our friends at MAN) for buying a pint.

Only Glasgow (£2.99) and Heathrow (£3.79) are cheaper than Brum's and Man's £4.10. Therefore, it is not the promise of a cheaper pint that is driving passengers to MAN.

London City the most expensive at a staggering £7.00 and Bristol...sorry localyokel.... The second most expensive at £5.90. Better the Somersetonians skip Lulsgate and head straight for Elmdon and save £1.80 a pint.

The good news about the HS2 review is that ideas such as this are being tabled. What a sham...sorry, shame....that we have not had a national intercity transport strategy. A figure of 8 of high speed rail: London to Bristol/Cardiff. Bristol and Cardiff to Brum. Brum to Glasgow with stop off at the villages along the way. Glasgow to Edinburgh or Newcastle. Newcastle to Brum stopping of the Yorkshire somewhere. Brum to London. Sorted. Oh and Essex to Alsace.

A lovely thought but in the entire South West we don't even have electric trains. The largest city, Bristol, is all diesel except for the newly-electrified London-Cardiff route that passes just to the north of Bristol.

Is it early April or just the media having done their in depth research before informing the nation of the facts?

I never watch morning 'BREAKFAST' type programmes, too lightweight for my patience to bear! Inaccurate reporting I can work around but a cheery chappie wanting to be my friend is intolerable when I am dealing with life maintenance medication. I am a bit of a monster until the drugs start working, usually around 5pm.

I am sure we will be informed in good time that it is no longer possible to fly direct to NEW YORK from Birmingham.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
