I believe that my first ever cinema experience was The Empire Strikes Back. I have vague memories of my dad taking me to the old Warwick cinema in Acocks Green.

He used to take me regularly and I can remember us going to see Return of the Jedi, A View to a Kill and Raiders of the Lost Arc. The best however must have been Condorman starring Micheal Crawford o_O:rolleyes:

thats made me feel even older!
those films were only a few years ago!

Or the Bolling Alley underneath it.

Random question: does anyone know who the athletes are getting to Rio this summer? Do the British Olympic Committee have an official departure airport through which athletes can have a fast track check in, VIP treatment (and the same on their return if they win a medal) etc. Or do they simply travel on normal scheduled flights?

Has it changed much? Lived in Olton for a while and would drive through quite regularly

...but, if we actually had any flights to Las Vegas, it might not have happened! On the positive side, it shows there may be demand for a direct BHX-LAS service!

I can imagine there would be quite a big demand, I know plenty of people from this area that have gone there recently. Personally I dont know why, I was glad to leave.

Depending on how long it's been since you last visited, Acocks Green has changed a huge amount. I very rarely go near the place these days.

I know a few people who have gone to Vegas in recent years (all but one from London), some loved it, some hated it.

I would imagine I was last in Acocks Green around 1990ish
Luckily I was only in Vegas for one day and a night. Took it in as part of a 3000 mile road trip to California, Nevada and Arizona.

X-rated holiday plans end in tears - It is worthy of a headline in one of the red-top dailies, or is it?

Publicity today for a young couple from Sutton Coldfield who thought they had the dream holiday of a lifetime when they booked their flights from Birmingham to Las Vegas. But when arriving at BHX and not seeing their flight on the departure board, their dreams turned to tears when they were told they had in fact booked online flights from BHM, yes, Birmingham Alabama to Las Vegas.

If it wasn't so sad and disappointing for the young couple it would be hilarious.

But all was not lost, they changed their dollars into euros and settled for a romantic few days in Amsterdam instead.

Believe it or not, this story is true...

Birmingham to have its own marathon :)
City will stage the 26.2-mile Birmingham International Marathon next year with hopes it will be used for 2018 Commonwealth Games trials.

A full marathon through the streets of Birmingham is set to become a major international event in the running calendar - and create huge economic returns for the city.

The 26.2-mile world-class event - to be called Birmingham International Marathon - is expected to bring a major marketing boost to the city with extra tourists and business investment.

It will be staged for the first time in October next year and place the city in the same league as the likes of London, Paris, Berlin and Rome.

The event, which has been revealed today, will be organised by The Great Birmingham Run Company in partnership with the city council and is set to become the leading autumn marathon in the UK.

Organisers also hope it will be used for the 2018 Commonwealth Games trials. The start line will be at the Alexander Stadium, the home of British Athletics and Birchfield Harriers.

Runners will pass landmarks including Villa Park, Selfridges, Cannon Hill Park, Cadbury's and Edgbaston Cricket Ground.

The Great Birmingham Run Company is staging the Great Birmingham 10k this Sunday and the Great Birmingham Run half marathon on October 16 this year.

The company also manages the world's biggest half marathon, the Great North Run, as well as the Great Manchester Run and the Great South Run.

And the big question is how many forums4airport members will be running in it ???

While we're on the subject of sports, I think Birmingham should definitely bid for the 2026 Commonwealth Games. They would coincide with the completion of HS2, the Eastside locks regeneration, the Smithfield family quarter development on the site of the old wholesale markets, the Paradise development on the site of the old Central Library, and maybe Arena Central as well. The Games would give huge publicity to the city as a whole.

Even if we don't get the Games, 2026 is likely to be a boom year for Brum. I can't imagine what BHX will be like by then, but let's hope an economic recession doesn't set in for a long time.

I commend the sentiments but HS2 built by 2026? This is the UK remember. The GWR electrification, a minor task compared with HS2, is already years behind schedule and hugely over budget. Electrification was due to partly open in 2017 but we'll probably be lucky to get that by 2026.

And then there's Berlin Brandenburg Airport. Due to open in 2010 it now seems that it won't until at least 2018 - and that's in Germany the supposed home of super efficiency.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
