Anyone know what's up with Tui today at BHX. Quite extensive delays on many flights. TFS from 06.25am hasn't left yet...NBE had a 7hr delay...etc etc??

Never seen so many Tui flights delayed until the next day.. there must've been one hell of a meltdown this morning at BHX

BHX - LPA TOM7674

Had a great holiday in Gran Canaria with TUI, my first time with them since the days of Britannia Airways and Thomson Holidays. I have to say they remind me of the good old Monarch Airlines. You get no silly music whilst boarding and all announcments are made by the cabin crew actually speaking, not somebody pressing the play button, ha. I like this personel touch ;-)

Nothing really to report at BHX, other than the TUI app didn't give me the option to check in 24/48 hours before so I had to wait in the airport check in que, however as the amount of people for the self check in was longer, I didn't have problem with this and from the back to the front of the que took about 30 mins.

Security was a breeze compared to my trip to Edinburgh back in May which took about 1 hour, this time I sailed through. No que and plenty of security staff informing passengers which booth to go to, I was very impressed with the turnaround.

Airport was busy as it was the afternoon rush and all the shops/restaurants were busy, I treated myself to a new fragrance for my holiday. :)

Hope you enjoy my video, no footage of BHX this time as I think we all know what BHX looks like by now and nothing has changed since the last time I visited, lol

Also at the start of my video you can hear the announcement from the pilot regarding the 1 hour delay due to air traffic control restrictions in the Canary Islands. This was due to a Ryanair plane stuck on the runway at Tenerife South. As Las Palmas is a 2 runway airport, most planes were being diverted to LPA for around 1 hour.

As you will see I travelled on a standard Boeing 737-800 Aircraft which I was a bit dissapoinited about however it was a good decision to film the outbound flight as I had pre booked seat 10A both ways and was going to do a video on the way back too, HOWEVER

As i boarded the aircraft at LPA and approached my seat it was already taken by a young lad and 2 other people, after speaking with them that I had booked seat 10A (Window), one of the other 2 people told me that they were also unable check in using the app so had to check in at the airport, however there son was given seat 11B and as he suffered from ADHD, he would of found uncomfortable sitting in the middle of 2 strangers on a 4 hour flight. They asked me if it was possible for me to sit in Seat 11B.

Of course I offered my seat (10A) to the young lad and ended up sitting in the middle of 2 strangers and no window ;-(

The stewardess shortly afterwards came over to me to see if I was ok with the situation and further into the flight, I ordered a muffin and Americano coffee and the same stewardess told me it was on TUI airways for my kindness. So I saved £4.50 in the process . She told me that it was passengers like me that made there jobs so much easier.

My good deed of the day was done ;-)

Enjoy

Fabulous video Sir, thanks very much for posting (y)

Glad to see that karma rewarded you for your kindness :)

TUI seem to be mixing and matching their fleet at BHX. Currently have 4 737 Maxs based, a Smart Lynx A320 and a Wamos A333, and a few of their 737s were parked up at the weekend for a while, so can only presume they are having crewing issues again hence the use of the A320 and A330. Never a dull day with TUI at present, let’s just hope they can manage to keep their delays down to a minimum!

ES-SAZ A320 has arrived and gone over to STS Presumably for a tweak prior to TUI service. I see this is a former First Choice aircraft. That's a blast from the past!.
It's down to operate to Heraklion departing 1655hrs currently sat at BHX showing gate closed so a three hour plus delay and another load of unhappy TUI customers with another unhappy group in Heraklion waiting to come home.

It gets sadder !

The original flight was down to be operated by the A320 but turns out operated by Smart Lynx A321 YL-LDS departed 2034 hrs info pulled from FR24 and the movements blog. In better news all tomorrows Tui flights are currently down to be operated by their own aircraft hopefully that happens but no doubt the flight planners are standing bye.

and to add to the TUI mess, TOM7458 to Paphos at 17:15, due to have been operated by the Wamos A333, has now been delayed to around 19:20 Friday, only a 26 hours delay.

Not the first time this summer a TUI flight has been delayed over 24 hours, its almost like they don't care once a flight is over the 3hour flight delay compensation limit.

So why are they using the Wamos A330 & the 2 SmartLynx aircraft for? Is it lack of TUI crew again?

Awful performance by them this summer.

Hope they get it sorted for Summer 2023. After my excellent experience with them 4 weeks ago I would consider flying with them again next summer.

(y)

I've even been sent a special voucher already to use on my next booking for £100 off and no restrictions for single travellers, tut tut Jet2 which is the reason they won't be getting my business again anytime soon.

You seem to have a negative view point of anything associated with Leeds (Jet2) Brum X, I also follow skyscraper city and you are always trash talking about the differences with Birmingham and Leeds.

I’m not entirely sure why, nor do I care frankly, however I’m typing this from a sun bed near Coral Bay in Paphos. Yesterday evening hundreds of Tui passengers arrived at our hotel from the delayed TOM7458 and it seems they’ve had a really rather horrific time of it yesterday and are now stuck here waiting for transfer buses at midnight local time.

Talking to quite a number, it seems they will certainly be #votingwiththierfeet and choosing anything other than Tui next time they book a holiday.

I’m glad you had a good experience with Tui as did I earlier this summer but looking around here today most for now hate the sight of the smiley Tui badge!

Sorry you feel that way, best to put me on ignore then if I offend you in any way.

FYI I travelled with Jet2 in 2019 and didn't have a bad word to say about them (They were Leeds based in 2019 too) the issue I have with them is after the pandemic there marketing strategy. They emailed me with a voucher offering a discount of £200, based on the knowledge that I was a single traveller as I had travellled with them the year before, however when I went to book the holiday for Summer 2021(Again im always negative about anything to do with Jet2 and Leeds, lol) the discount was automatically halved. If that is the case don;t send me a voucher offering me £200 ??

I emailed them asking for a response and did I get a response, of course I didn't. If was then I took a dislike to Jet2.

TUI on the other hand when making similar enquiries for summer 2022 offered me a similar discount and when booking my holiday, the discount they offered was the discount I got.

So this is the issue I have with Jet 2 and for you to make similarities between me taking a dislike to Jet2 as they are Leeds based and my dislike to some buildings that are going up in Leeds makes you quite frankly sound silly.

I even have a video of my Jet 2 flight in 2019 if you would like to have a look, it is on You tube ? I enjoyed my flight with them, apart from the silly music.

Moving on

Yes we better move on in case I offend you…

As I put in my post I frankly don’t care if you are negative in anyway towards Jet2 or Leeds as a city, everyone is entitled to their opinion I was simply making a valid observation based on the fact you wanted to drag Jet2 into the conversation regarding a rather poor Tui PFO-BHX delay.

Certainly no need for such a cantankerous reply.

Let’s move on

TOM7458 showing on departures at 19:45 now, FR24 has it being operated by the Wamos A333 again, estimating departure of 20:25, 27 hours delay only.....

TOM7458 finally departed at 22:14 on the Wamos A333, a delay of 29 hours almost, I just hope none of the passengers are only having a 7 day holiday

Noticed yesterday that TUI operated two 787s one 788 and one 789 into BHX from Melbourne catching up from hurricane Ian no doubt, they then positioned to Bristol and Gatwick respectively.

Also see a788 is operating to Espargos and Palma today presumably just finishing off the schedules before everything short haul switches to 737s as Matt995 posted.

Hopefully TUI use the winter to sort out the many problems they had across the network this summer.

Both flights were actually operated by 737 Maxs.

Be interesting to see what happens with TUIs summer 2023 flights, will we see cut backs due to people not booking holidays due to the cost of living issues, and aircraft wise, with no Sunwing 738 leases & a few of the older TUI 738s leaving the fleet, will they get enough new 737 Maxs to replace them, or will Smartlynx & co be used again?

The movementsblog yesterday showed both flights as operating by the 788 now updated to the Max. For today it is showing Palma and Pafos as 788 operated so maybe the blog will update later.

Regarding 2023 I agree next year looks to be tough with people drawing their horns in because of the cost of living and many people this who flew this year will have used vouchers from covid.

I think TUI have the Max-10 on order? but Boeing still struggling to get it certified.

Personally my wife and I will keep going (or as Churchill said "keep buggering on")as at our age we want to make the most of travelling while we can with two fly cruises booked from BHX to Malta and Bridgetown using Jet2 and TUI.

Do Jet2 do cruises?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
