Flight time is most considerably what determines a flight as long haul. Hurghada is 4,485 miles from BHX and takes between 5-5 half hours which is considered medium haul. Anything over 6 plus hours is considered long haul.

4,485 miles in 5.5hrs that's quick at 800mph. Kilometres or afterburners 😃

Go with six hrs plus as definition of long haul.

About 3,500 was abit of there wasn’t it. Don’t always trust google.

But the point still stands it’s considered Medium haul. As they’re calculated by their flight times.

Tui summer 23 (long haul flights)

Cancun:3 weekly ( Wednesday,Saturday, Sunday)
Montego Bay: 2 weekly(Tuesday and Saturday)
Bridgetown-No operation during summer season
Punta Cana :2 weekly (Tuesday and Friday)
Melbourne:3 weekly (Monday Thursday and Sunday)

As they’re calculated by their flight times

The TUI HRG to BHX flight on 13th Jan had a flight time of 5hr56min.

A BA flight from JFK to LHR on the same day took 5hr55min, so is New York to London medium haul?

Wind speeds, and whether they are a head or tail wind, have a huge impact on flight times. The fastest recorded transatlantic flight (besides Concorde) was a BA 747 from New York to London which flew it in 4hr57min. With strong headwinds it can take as long to fly from Turkey to the UK (especially Scotland).

As I said short haul 0-3hrs, Medium 3-6hrs, Long haul- 6 plus hrs

If the flight you are on about was less than 6hrs on the way back then it was medium haul and the flight there was 6 plus then it’s long haul. Depends on wind speed/direction head/tail winds as you’ve mentioned. That’s just how it is.

Not a huge amount of detail but good to see a positive article.

Also there are reports from elsewhere that we will see two Sunwing aircraft based this summer.

Travel group Tui will be offering 140 flights a week from Birmingham Airport in the summer of 2024. It is also adding more hotels across 22 destinations for next year after strong bookings for this year.

A little bit more detail.

The full release is linked below, I've just taken out the bits relevant to BHX.

TUI is adding 15,000 new seats with new flights to Enfidha from Bristol, Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham, starting from Easter 2024.

TUI is adding a third weekly flight to Boa Vista from Birmingham,

TUI is offering additional flights from Easter 2024 to provide 10 and 11 night durations to Agadir from Birmingham, and to Marrakesh from Birmingham and Bristol, both starting from Easter 2024.

Birmingham – Thessaloniki 1 weekly
We are on this service in August. TUI have just informed us that it will now be flown by a Sunwing Airlines plane with Sunwing crew.
Out Monday morning back Thurs lunch..so could it be a BHX based unit for peak summer ?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
