The first Norwegian Boeing 787 8 to land at CWL landed today at 14.35. The aircraft (LN-LNC) is to go through maintenance at the BAMC facility.
Also 2 Easyjet flights from AMS and INV diverted into CWL because of fog at BRS.

There was an easyJet diversion operating EDI-BRS too.

Great photos! It's a shame EZY aircraft aren't at CWL more often and we only get to see them for diverts.

Looks like some more fog diverts from BRS this morning Aer Lingus ATR 72-600 EI-FCY and KLM Cityhopper E190 PH-EZC.

Unfortunately arrived too late to catch the KLM departure.

The Stobart Air positioned out to Dublin empty and KLM continued on to Bristol once weather improved after a spot of fuel.

It's great for CWL to have some easyJet diverts but certainly not for the passengers who are inconvenienced, and it seems to play havoc with the airline too. easyJet cancelled their BRS-CDG rotation yesterday following the diversion of the aircraft from Amsterdam that should have then operated the CDG.

Wind yesterday morning was negligible so I could not understand why the BRS active runway was not switched to 27 that has the Cat 3b capability. Perhaps it was a bit stronger than where I live (a few miles from BRS) where there was hardly a breath of wind.

I don't know whether you were in the area nearly ten years ago Jerry when the BRS runway was closed following major problems with a resurfacing programme. easyJet relocated to CWL for a couple of days whilst the problem was sorted out. See this link.

They did use Runway 27 for arrivals but seem that even that wasn't good enough.

The Thomson B738 gave it a go seems as if the RVR increased just in time and when the last of the diverted went to make an approach it decreased again so diverted to Cardiff.

Once all aircraft that were in the hold landed on 27 the runway was then switched to 09 without a tailwind component.

I don't dispute the inconvenience to the customer however that's life I'm afraid. Approx 20 passengers disembarked off the 2nd aircraft that didn't have any bags that I could see from Southside.

Yes it will be a bit of extra money for the airport and no doubt a few of those passengers would've been Welsh!

I wonder if the reason EZY cancels the flights is to avoid paying compensation for delayed flights? I believe over 4 hours delay they have to pay compensation?

I have read about when EZY decamped to CWL because they weren't happy with the runway but i'll admit i wasn't an aviation fan back then. It's a pity they didn't stay!

Thanks for that. I'm very surprised that the visibility didn't even allow for a 3b approach on 27 - what are the limits for that?: 50 feet decision height and about 150 feet RVR? That's thick fog and even at BRS it doesn't often get that bad.

Having grown up living just over a mile from what is now BRS (I don't live as near nowadays) I've seen the difficult weather at first hand too many times. Perversely, it's often much clearer a quarter of a mile away. It was the last place that an airport should have been put.

The point I made about inconveniencing passengers is that many of us will welcome the idea of diversions to our local airport, wherever it may be, but we don't always consider the plight of the passengers.

diverts are always a problem as airlines and pax never win. in a perfect world to get things done as planned. its a pity its not a perfect world in these times.

Small Planet airlines will be doing tomorrows 7am Lapland flight to Ivalo. Flight no. S5891 on an Airbus A320 LY-SPD it landed at 15.39 from LTN.
Also Jota Aviation arrived from DUB at 12.59 and departed for Grenoble at 13.48 with the Ospreys rugby team for their Challenge cup tomorrow against FC Grenoble. Good luck to them!

AF4004 LYS-CWL was operated on F-GKXS which was an A320 in Skyteam livery.

Trade Air

I happened to be looking at FR24 just now and saw a Trade Air F100 flying from CWL (1207 departure) to Budapest. Being a bit nosey I wondered if anyone know's its purpose.

It was a charter for the Sampdoria football team who played Manchester United in Dublin yesterday. So the F100 did DUB-CWL, then positioned out CWL-BUD.

Hope this helps TLY.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
