The news CEO at Liverpool is John Irving who has moved from Newcaste Airport to take up the post.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) has today announced that John Irving has been appointed as the new CEO of the Airport Company and is due to take charge on 12th March 2018.

John joins the Airport from his current position as Chief Commercial Officer at Newcastle International Airport where he has worked for the past two and half years driving record passenger and airline growth. A qualified Management Accountant, prior to his time in aviation John has also held senior commercial and financial positions at Newcastle United Football Club and Procter & Gamble and brings a wealth of successful business experience from across various sectors.

LJLA handled almost 5 million passengers in 2017 with flights to over 60 destinations in the UK and across Europe and is known for its relaxed, hassle free environment and best-in-class operational performance. Passenger numbers grew by almost 3% last year compared to 2016 generating the Airport’s highest annual passenger figures since 2011 and LJLA is also one of the area’s major employers, attracting inward investment and bringing significant tourism benefits, helping to boost the region’s economy.

New CEO John Irving commented, “I am very excited at being given the opportunity to take this business forward at a time when the Peel Group’s continued investment in the Airport has seen Liverpool become one of the UK’s stand-out regional airports.

I am thoroughly looking forward to building on this recent success and for Liverpool to continue to be the faster, easier, friendlier Airport of choice for passengers from across the region.”

Airport Chairman Robert Hough commented, ”John has helped Newcastle Airport make significant progress in his time there and we are therefore delighted to welcome him in his new role here at Liverpool, bringing drive and determination to take the Airport on to the next level and to realise its tremendous potential.

John will also be a great asset for the City Region too, developing the Airport’s strategic importance through improved connectivity, helping to attract further inward investment and bringing continued benefits for the region’s visitor economy.”

When did the previous CEO leave the post? I ask partly because both BRS and BHX have been without CEOs for many months following the departure of the respective CEOs at those airports.

An art sculpture to the 96 people who died at Hillsborough has been officially unveiled in its new home at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

The Band of Life – commissioned by Mayor Joe Anderson in conjunction with the Hillsborough Family Support Group to mark the 25th anniversary of the disaster in 2014 – has been relocated from the atrium in the Liverpool ECHO building on Old Hall Street where it has been for the last three years.

The Band of Life is a simple band representing the bond between the families, friends, survivors and fans who were brought together in a time for the love of the lost ones. The band is a link between them, representing a continuous circle of love bringing the city of Liverpool together to remember. It has 96 lights, each representing a person who died, with the illumination symbolising a commitment to continue to bring light to their life.

It was officially unveiled in its new home at the airport in a special ceremony on Thursday 15 March attended by Lord Mayor, Cllr Malcolm Kennedy, representatives of the families and senior airport managers.

The Lord Mayor said: “I am pleased and privileged to have unveiled the Band of Life at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

“It is a poignant symbol of the 96 innocent football fans that needlessly lost their lives, and a constant reminder of the long fight for truth and justice by their families.”

Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson said: “The Band of Life’s new home at Liverpool John Lennon Airport will mean it will be seen by millions of people every year, which is really important as we are committed to forever remembering the 96 lives that were lost.

“It will give people the opportunity to reflect not just on those who died, but also the incredible bravery of their families.”

Hillsborough Family Support Group chair, Margaret Aspinall, said: "The Band of Life is hugely symbolic, not just to those who died and the families who've lost loved ones, but also the survivors and those who've supported us for so many years.

“I’ve wanted it to go somewhere that it would be seen by many, many people and Liverpool John Lennon Airport is an excellent location given the large number of people who pass through their doors every year."

Robert Hough, Chairman of Liverpool John Lennon Airport commented: “When we heard that a new home was being sought for the Band of Life, we were naturally only too happy to offer space for this to be relocated close to the Arrivals area in the Airport terminal building.

“This will help to ensure that the millions of arriving passengers at the Airport, be they visitors to the City Region or those returning home, will continue to remember the 96 lives that were lost.”

Somerset finished one point above the relegation places in Division One of the County Championship last season
Somerset have appointed Andrew Cornish, formerly the boss at Liverpool Airport, to be the club's new chief executive.

He will succeed Lee Cooper, who stood down on 14 March after just nine months in the position.

Former club cricketer Cornish will take up office at Taunton on 3 April.

After last season's uncomfortable brush with relegation, Somerset's new County Championship season begins on 20 April with a home game against promoted Worcestershire.

Cornish is an aviation industry specialist who worked for Aer Lingus and Manchester Airport before moving in 2014 to Liverpool John Lennon Airport, a job he left in June 2017.

A club statement said: "Andrew is a highly experienced and successful individual who has held important chief executive roles in leading businesses, most latterly as CEO of Liverpool Airport Holdings Ltd.

"His track record in delivering customer service, developing companies, and together with the delivery of major infrastructure projects make him, in our opinion, ideally suited to take on the challenges facing the club in the years ahead.

"These include establishing floodlights at the Cooper Associates County Ground, delivering World Cup matches in 2019, navigating through the complexities of a new T20 tournament and, most importantly, ensuring that Somerset remain a superbly competitive cricket club."

Great minds......... I was going to post this. Somerset CCC is my lifelong county cricket club and I was a member for many years.

Mr Cornish will inherit one controversial problem straight away. Somerset's new overseas player this season is one Cameron Bancroft, the very same who's been suspended by Cricket Australia following the ball tampering incident in the South Africa v Australia test match.

Addendum

The said Mr Bancroft will no longer be playing for Somerset this season.

The Airport Information Desk, is to be given the boot. Apparently the feeling is these days, people just check for info on their phones, and probably they do. Personally I still think having a person to speak to when you arrive at a new city is worthwhile.

I agree wholeheartedly with your comment, Carl.

As with so many things in life these days it presumes that everyone has access to the Internet. Many older people don't, and some don't even have basic mobile phones, and are therefore marginalised when often contact with organisations can only be made by the Internet.

Yes Its a huge presumption that its what everyone wants to do. I have used airport desks when I'm abroad, I wouldn't really think to get my phone out.
I also think Liverpool being a very tourist city, its a facility that should be available, but that's just my feeling on it.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
