I remember him compering Sunday Night At The London Palladium on Sunday evenings in the late 1950s. It was his first big break.

In those days there was only BBC tv and ITV - just the two channels - so any popular programme, which Sunday Night .... was, would command a huge percentage of the viewing audience in the country.

He wasn't really my cup of tea but I recognise that he was extremely popular. He lived to a very decent age. RIP.

The LAPD on Twitter are saying they have no knowledge of his passing but that he is still critically ill in hospital.
Had hoped for better news, but BBC is now reporting that Tom Petty has sadly passed away.

I really liked his music, not only as 'Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers', but also his work with 'The Travelling Wilburys'.
Sad to lose you at such a young age, Tom.

'Learning to fly' -

Rest in Peace!

Sean Hughes RIP

I was extremely shocked and deeply saddened to read of the untimely death of comedian Sean Hughes.

He was just 51 and currently no reason for his passing is available. Although he did tweet a few days ago that he was in hospital.
Rest in peace, Sean and many thanks for all the laughs.

Regards

Kevin

Fats Domino RIP

I was deeply saddened to read of the passing of Antoine 'Fats' Domino (89).
A man with a true musical talent and (apparently), the best selling Rock 'n' Roll artist after Elvis Presley.
I'm sure you'll all be familiar with the following songs -

Thank you for your wonderful music, Fats! Now, get Heaven Rockin' (y)

Thank you for that tribute, Kevin. Perhaps the one consolation is that he lived to a good age.

Another 80s star Keith Chegwin has passed away at the age of 60 after a long illness RIP cheggers

He must have been best known for his part in Channel 4s Big Breakfast show although I remember him been in a number of easygoing shows.

As I have mentioned on a couple of occasions I have been going through a difficult time. Yesterday I lost my Mum after a 4 year battle against dementia and renal failure. My Mum's courage, determination and stubbornness were without equal. She was the most important person in my life and things will never be the same again. I expect there are a few people on here who will know exactly how I'm feeling at the moment and for those of you haven't gone through it what I would say is treat every bit of time you have with your loved ones as precious because nothing lasts forever.
I would like to say that spending time on this forum has helped me so much over the last couple of years even if all I've really contributed are tales from back in the day.
Thank you.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
