A number of those airports aren't "low cost airports".

BHX is the largest UK airport without a year round service to Iceland, so should be on their radar (before PLAY, Stansted was the largest).

As usual with BHX the good news from euro wings is followed by loss of stobart air ( aer lingus) flights to Ireland,
im sure they will be taken up by other airlines in future tho.

It was inevitable as the Stobart group have lost some major contracts with the Road Haulage division. Debenhams etc. Closing and social restrict not helping either. Still, losing an airline is never good.

Whilst sad about Stobart Air, I believe Aer Lingus were in the process of setting up their own regional subsidiary, although it wasn't meant to launch until late next year.

There was a UK registered airline with the name Emerald Airways. They used to fly Budgies (HS748), ATP's and S360's. Is this Aer Lingus related 'Emerald' a new one?

The flights Stobart operated for Aer Lingus used the Aer Lingus livery so I suspect Emerald will too. It'll basically be a case of Aer Lingus (operated by Emerald).

Never realized but fair enough if it was. You should check the LGW flight times

At this point Aer Lingus will likely keep the Dublin & Belfast City routes, which I hope BA will add a codeshare on Belfast like they do with BHX to Dublin. Maybe Ryanair will pick up Cork & Shannon or Flybe 2.0.​

Emerald Airlines is a completely new airline only founded in 2020. It wasn't going to be a rebrand of Stobart Air, just serve the same function.

Not entirely true. Emerald are a new airline so Just because Stobart collapsed doesn’t necessarily mean that emerald airways won’t happen. If the rumors you say about the ATRs are true then I do wonder when they finally get going what their aircraft plans will be.

With regards to Shannon and Cork it depends on demand. Once things ease if demand is there for them I’m sure a carrier will pick them up. As I’ve posted in the Flybe BHX thread we can’t expect everything to be the same as it was before in terms of frequency’s of routes and routes themselves. There will be some routes in my guess that won’t return when more travel is allowed and frequency’s will be reduced for a while in my opinion. We will have to see how things develop.

Looks like Logan territory, already established at BHX and an existing market to link Ireland with Scotland to a major airport centrally located.

My understanding is that Emerald and Stobart are completely separate companies and the Aer Lingus Regional franchise was up for renewal which Emerald won and in the process likely hastened the end for Stobart. I've read somewhere but can't remember where the boss of Emerald has good connections with Aer Lingus.

Emerald are due to take over late 2022/early 2023 so I guess the current ops by Aer Lingus and BA City Flyer are a stop gap to maintain continuity and discourage competitors from muscling in. No doubt discussions will be taking place to get Emeralds operations bought forward if possible.
