It's also only for this season as it stands. Hopefully there will be talks to extend the deal further.

Interesting article in the Times re. growth of services from Manchester to China. Surely the time is now for Birmingham to get a direct service too?

BHX is not in the UK / China bi-lateral so unless this is changed BHX wont get a China service.
I know BHX are pushing to get it amended.

Aren’t we still in talks with Cathay and Finnair about a potential route?

One of the problems is the adversarial nature of relations between UK and China. With BA and VS reducing their presence between UK and China, there is little incentive for the UK to open up the market for Chinese airlines any further.

If so, it is a mistake to do it before seeing how UAE and QTR face off. EDI must be reaching the limits of ME demand. LGW would make far more sense.

It may well end up being LGW but all the rumours suggest a return to EDI
