Very much a rumour or question etc but talk on A net of upto 10 routes to be announced by Etihad… could 1 be BHX ?
This was an announcement from Etihad that they intend to operate to 10 previously lapsed and new destinations including one to a previously unused UK airport.
It hinges on the upcoming supply of new A321LR aircraft in the near future.

I am happy to be corrected but I believe there has been no suggestion a UK airport will be included. There has been speculation that the returning route could be LGW or EDI, but the money seems to be on Perth.

SeanM (usually reliable] has hinted that Etihad will be an adding a 3rd UK destination.

Agreed, there has been no formal statement from EY stating their intention of a 3rd UK route... until thats stated, all else is speculation and i wont be getting myself exciting!

Can you post a link please to the announcement that refers to a previously unused UK airport being among the new routes?

The point is that Etihad has made no mention of UK. There is lot of speculation about LGW and EDI, but only speculation. Other websites point to US and Australia as being high on Etihad’s agenda.

Yes but your post I was replying to said "there has been no suggestion a UK airport will be included" and I pointed out that there has been a suggestion of same (from a source that has proven to be reliable in the past).

If we're relying on what Etihad have said, then to the best of my knowledge they haven't mentioned restarting Perth. So your assertion that "the money seems to be on Perth" has no stronger basis than the rumours of them restarting a UK route.

If I understand correctly Etihad have said that are looking at launching 10 routes, 9 new cities and 1 resumption.

Meanwhile it’s SeanM has hinted Etihad are going to announce a third UK destination and in fairness he’s usually pretty reliable.

If PER is the rumoured resumption city then that cancels out EDI and I believe LGW (I’m sure Etihad used to fly there).

None of this actually means Etihad are planning BHX any time soon.

Etihad is confirmed not to launch
to BHX, this is due to UAE aviation already boosting BHX using emirates, using etihad is not sales worthy. If a 3rd destination is announced, it’s going to be LGW

Hi there all, regarding the post about Etihad Airlines, why would they want to set up another operation at Birmingham airport, when they have a massive set up at Manchester, plus Heathrow or Gatwick. Birmingham airport is too near to Mancuhester Airport, plus they wouldn't want to divert business at Birmingham airport, when there is a big set up at Manchester airport. Do you honestly think that Emirates and Qatar would have any say on this issue, they would as it's taking business away from them. Plus also it could damage any agreement they have with Birmingham airport at present. What Birmingham airport really needs are direct flights to the USA

As with PIA, Etihad was not likely to happen. Their route network is no where near as extensive as Emirates, Qatar or Turkish, so I cannot see what their point to point market would have been in the Midlands, that LHR/MAN were not already catering for. They are a relatively new airline, let's not forget, and the ME is probably the most competitive market place at the moment given the high level of transit movement.

I would rather see BHX try the US again (come on take advantage of the Delta link via BCFC- at least try), new routes in India and growth markets in Africa.

I must say I did not read it as a hint as much as a question.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
