Believe me as a strategic planner noone who needs to cares about crane counts. They are for the tabloids and based on the last few years just off the Seven Sisters Road was the most prosperous place in London.

Back to the rumours I have lost the thread. Is there any news on anything from anywhere?

I am enjoying a few days down here on the Algarve coast but also, with one eye. on what is happening on F4A.
I am relatively old now but one thing that always irks me is when people quote statistics without any reference to actual data.
So, for starters, when people talk about cranes, what are they talking about? Stepladders....small cranes... big cranes.... giant cranes and in what geographical area? let's get some perspective in this, if we are going to talk about cranes then we should be stipulating a minimum height at the very least. I will leave that to others to decide..
Secondly when people talk about economic statistics, can they please give the source from which they have gleaned this information and the specific dates on which this information was released. There has to be some credibility to this information, so without it,it is meaningless.
Thirdly, the size of an airport, the number of passengers any airport handles is bringing the discussion down to the level of football alllegience. Because one city has one or two fabulously successful clubs, does that really mean that city is better than any other? Sadly, it often means that city has a higher propensity to violence and murder.
Let's get some perspective into our discussions.
Toodle pip!

Sorry to butt in but i think i'm lost..This is the Route Development thread isn't it?.
There also seems to be a heated discussion on the Qatar thread revolving around the effects of a 1% difference in load factors.
Is there some kind of competition going on for those in the know?

Once again, we'll draw a line under this and get back to Birmingham Airport Route Development as the vast majority of us on here have no interest whatsoever in Manchester, Liverpool, tower cranes or football hooliganism!

Thanks Ray for keeping some discipline on this forum, you have more patience than me that's for sure. (y)

However i might add some people do actually have an interest in tower cranes and there are such pages within this website to see them and discuss them as much as you like. Just not on the Birmingham Airport route development page.

Thanks ;)

It's just the usual 'mine is bigger than yours' that seems to pop up form time to time, sadly it's usually the BHX forum that bears the brunt and I think most of us can work out why.

That's two 'advisories' given now and if it continues the way it has then posts will be deleted and if needed threads will be locked. There is also the possibility of individual members being banned from posting in the BHX subsection, either temporarily or permanently. It's something that I have never done before and something that I sincerely hope will not have to do now.

With respect, Ray, another suggestion. You could move Richard's post on 'propensity to violence and murder' to a new thread of its own, together with all the responses arising from it (including mine, obviously). I would have no issue with that. Leave this thread to discuss its core topic, but allow a surprising unsubstantiated claim to be challenged elsewhere. Unfortunately, one can only respond to a post in the thread where it appears.

Believe me it crossed my mind but I wasn't totally convinced about starting a football fan rivalry thread in such a negative way.

If it's what people want then I'll kick it off in the sports forum.

There is now a discussion on there about the prospect of a route from Northern Ireland and the facilities at Belfast Int. Jeeze!!.

Right...

Those who want to debate who has the worst football fans please click HERE

Those who want to discuss Belfast Airport please click HERE

Those who want to discuss tower cranes choose your forum HERE

Those who want to argue that theirs is the biggest, other forums are available.

Those who want to discuss Birmingham Airport, and please God let there be someone, this is the place.

Hopefully now the Kerfuffle has died down I thought I would ask a question on route development.

Ive been wondering if Emirates are likely to bring back the morning flight given the route currently seems to be operating with 85% load factors so roughly 1000 passengers per day each way, no idea on yield though. An extra rotation by a B777 would create additional connection options and significantly boost freight capacity which by all accounts is in high demand so maybe could tip the balance and make it viable.

Probably it would mean that one of the A380 flights would revert to a B777, so 2x777 and 1x380 daily which I would take anytime. Just mulling it over really but intrested in what others think as heading east for long haul rather than west seems the best option from BHX lately.

P.S. I know this could have gone on the Emirates thread but just thought it might help get this bit of the forum back on track so please move it if anyone wishes.

Not in the short term, but certainly in the longer term this will affect things:

Airbus says A380 superjumbo production will end

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-47231504

Not surprised that Emirates have now ordered the A350-900, but was surprised they've also ordered the A330-900NEO.

Even with production ending, Emirates will still have A380's for years to come, so in future they'll have 5 aircraft types to choose from:

A380
A350-900
A330-900NEO
B777X/B777-300ER
B787-10 (if they keep that order given the A350/A330neo order)

With all those aircraft types in play, its almost a given the morning flight will return. The question is with what?

Fly Erbil back flying from March 2019 using leased aircraft, limited services listed below, no mention BHX at this stage which is no great shock

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
