Love the A340, these aircraft don't climb very steep do they until much further away from the airport. I've noticed this when watching video's on Youtube ?
The takeoff runway length requirements for the A340 at max takeoff weight are the longest of all the wide-bodies. 3400m for the -600 fully loaded, vs 3000m for the A380 and 3100m for the B747-8 (numbers may not be quite right, im going off memory).

Some pilots have described the A340 as having 4 hair dryers under the wings.

Probably explains the relatively shallow ascent profile.

I think they do look fairly nice, though (if you dont look at the engines!)

I’m guessing Spicejet is very much likely to come to bhx. They probably would send a B737Max8
I don't think the MAX 8 would be used to the UK direct anyway.

Has a max range of 6500km and BHX to Amritsar is 6440km.

As they have to build in at least 30-45 mins potential holding fuel it would have to stop en-route.

Timberwolf I remember reading back in summer that one of the A380 to MAN would become a 4 class some
time early next year so leaving a 2/3 and 4 class flights each day so there is obviously the premium demand there.

More saying that higher class seating is there from all destinations so really if BHX had a mix of flights it could work

Wikipedia says 3000m for the A340-300 variant. So I expect there will be a weight limit.

At least now, any weight limit shouldn’t have to be as severe as the one that our last scheduled A340 operator, Air Blue, had to deal with (before the runway extension).

If my memory is correct, the original Air India services to BHX using B707's had to refuel in Moscow so I imagine that any use of B737's will require a similar pit stop. Other members may correct me if my memory is in error !

Your memory is correct, the B707 did indeed stage through Moscow. It my also have made another stop (or am I just confusing the Delhi/Amritsar sector). Also, the flight was often very, very heavily delayed.

I departed DXB on an A340-500 some years ago and the take off run did seem to go on for quite some time :)

Spicejet looked at BHX a few years ago with the stop thought to be Tbilisi. Much better direct on the A340, if, it happens.

Are the airport more bothered about cargo or Spicejet or other airlines. To me it sounds like both the cargo and Spicejet?

I don't think it's a case of one or the other.

I'm sure they'll be after as much business as possible to grow the airport in a sustainable way, both cargo and pax.

Was having a chat to our friend Ryan (Video's on Youtube) last night about the new Emirates A350 coming to BHX in the future, maybe ?

I was shocked to hear that BHX doesn't have a tug for an A350 and had to borrow one from Heathrow when Qatar sent an A350.

Also when World2Fly airlines sent one last year, the airline had to carry something in the hold due to BHX not having the correct equipment, Loooooooooooooooooooooool

Hopefully they will apply for some cash from the bank and obtain one soon and then we can see this beauty at BHX sooooooooooooooooooooon.

Presumably it would be none of the handling companies have one rather than the airport itself.

I guess if none of the airlines that use BHX or look to use BHX have shown an interest in sending an A350 here, then why would a handling company spend the money on getting equipment in that will mostly just sit there not being used?

I'm not sure which handling company Qatar or Emirates uses, but if either expressed an interest in sending A350s to BHX their agents would likely get the equipment in as it will be used on at least a daily basis and they don't want to lose the airline to a competitor.

I assure you, BHX is nowhere near getting those A350s. Their already planned for Australia

I thought it was the tow bar they didn't have?

As Coathanger says out there's no point spending money on equipment that will be sat there rusting away unused. If/when the time comes I'm sure it won't be an issue :)

Sorry I just assumed if they had one to fit a 777 and A380, the tow bar or tug would also fit the A350, but obviously not.

I did say in the future, maybe ? I am well aware they are going to Australia.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
