We are currently screening candidates for a reputable growing airline, who will shortly be based at three of the UK’s busiest airports, one of which being Birmingham. In 2015 over 6 million passengers on the continent flew with them.

Are these /guesses/predictions/forecasts still predicated on Jet 2? Doesn't the fact that 6 million passengers on the continent flew with in 2015 raise a question mark about the airline being Jet 2?

I fully understand that some agency adverts can seem 'mysterious', sometimes to protect the identity of the client - in this case an airline.

Whoever it is, it appears that BHX is a certainty. Whoever the other two airports turn out to be is far less certain. The advert speaks of a base at three of the UK’s busiest airports. BHX is now over 10 mppa and heading quickly towards 11 mppa-plus and is currently the UK's seventh busiest.

BRS and CWL have been suggested as possibilities in addition to BHX. BRS is just under 7 mppa (9th busiest) and CWL only 1.2 mppa (19th busiest). Neither are really amongst the UK's busiest, certainly not CWL. Furthermore, would a new airline (for the UK) setting up three new bases open one 'just down the road' from BHX at BRS or CWL as well?

If it does turn out to be Jet 2 then the advert is clearly far from accurate (perhaps for good reasons as I previously suggested) in which case Jet 2 might look at BRS or CWL as well as BHX.

I suppose "continent" could be Europe as a whole (Incl UK) but yes as you say there are a few things that are slightly wrong with the advert.

My guess is that it could well be Jet2, if it is an airline on the continent, im still going for Transavia. I believe they have just opened a new base at Munich so they are obvioulsy expanding, but at x 3 UK airports ????? The mind boggles

Mine is just a guess based on current rumours. Jet2 do seem to fit, although I note the point about passengers flown 'on the continent'.

I'd say the UK's busiest airports could be any of those in the top 10 or so and I'd certainly say Bristol qualifies. Possibly not Cardiff, although adverts can be 'spiced up' shall we say.

My opinion is that if it is a new airline to the UK looking at adding a base at any of the airports above Birmingham (LGW/STN/MAN/LTN/EDI) then I'd imagine that at least one of those would take preference for the first allocation this autumn and BHX would follow for summer with the other one?

Pure speculation of course.

However Ray, the above are "very" well supported by low cost bases all over the place, something BHX still isnt so they could of seen a market which could do with some nice expansion. It could be a positive ;-)

Good point.

There are so many ways that this could go.

I guess we'll have to wait and see but if it's an autumn start then hopefully we won't have to wait too long.

If it is to be Jet2 would they want to create a new base at BHX when they are already heavily involved with another airport just up the M42 - East Midlands?

An interesting report on Centre for Aviation (although there are some inaccuracies such as 'There are three daily Emirates flights to and from Dubai, but not every day').

Some of the more interesting snippets:

UPS and DHL are planning on using Birmingham this winter during the closures at EMA.

The management believe that there is cargo growth to be had and have had discussions with freight forwarders.

Thomas Cook are planning additional routes for winter (so far undisclosed).

Birmingham have a 'Oneworld Strategy' and a 'Canada Strategy'.

Specific city targets include, but are not limited to, Helsinki, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Vienna and Marseille.

As I'm sure was the case with others viewing that for the first time, my first thought was "long haul?" Then I thought it could just be referring to the new based A321 for W16/17. Then I changed my mind again because Thomas Cook have already announced the routes which will be flown by the A321.

Hopefully they're planning long haul, which might cause TOM to retaliate by basing a second 787. The least exciting possibility is that they're simply extending some summer-only routes into winter to make maximum use of the new A321.

I had the same thoughts.

The word 'additional' rather than the word 'new' makes that a strong possibility.

Another interesting point is the graph of the landing fees. Narrow bodies are roughly in line with other airports but wide bodies look around double.

Ray, but as I said on another forum, we are now in 2016 and the landing fee charges stated are from 2014. I personally would read that chart as a snapshot. PK recently went on record to say that BHX has one of the lowest cost bases in the UK for any airport which inherently will impact on charges.

I doubt we will ever see the full detail of landing charges, I suspect most will be confidential, but with EK, PIA and TURK all increasing 777 capacity at BHX, I would be surprised for this to be the case if our 777 charges were that high!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
