The longest B757 flight is operated by Delta, it's from New York JFK to Pisa, which is 6630 kilometers (4120 miles), and it's longer then Berlin to Newark. According to many websites, the B757 can fly up to 7200 kilometers (4400 kilometers), that's not to say that it can go that far without stopping for a fuel break from time to time. But I say that it could do BHX-ATL non-stop.

They might decide to use a 757 just to test the waters so to speak? Could a 757 have the range?

Not to Atlanta not got the required performance.
The international 75Ws (ex TW) have surprisingly high W seat numbers for their size and are currently deployed across the Atlantic from the base in JFK.

Any Atlanta - Europe flights are normally 763 minimum with occasional 333 to Dublin and Amsterdam.

The 764s tend to operate from Heathrow rather than using their limited fleet of 77Es

So if BHX- Atlanta is on the cards expect 5 weekly 763 , or as Delta are very much fortifying their JFK hub from Europe expect somewhere else entirely !

Been on both a Delta 767 300 and a 333 and much prefered the 333! Seemed quieter in the cabin. Maybe their is a big age difference idk?

Don't forget that there will be a significant difference between "what's in the brochure" and what's practical when it comes to performance specifications; tha maximum quoted range would never be attainable in practice due to operational contstraints like ETOPS, diversion/missed approach contingencies and the ever-present headwind when you're flying the "wrong way" over The Atlantic.

Hi there ray and all, when deltas announcement is made by bhx, states on Google that Birmingham to Atlanta direct is 4,119 miles, so wouldn't you use an 747, 787, 777 300, or an a380.....Andyc

:wideyed:

If it's announced, not when. There is a long history of rumours suggesting that something is 'guaranteed' to happen then it doesn't. Until it's official then assume nothing.

As for the type then Atlanta would be on a 767, most likely the -300 variant. A 757 could/would struggle and anything else would be way too big.

Aye, always whispers regarding route development unless a juicy titbit is offered to the media from the airline or airport. for whatever reason, airlines seem very reluctant to give BHX a go to the States - I would suggest it's more to do with the plentiful frequency of services ex-LHR rather than the single dailies (with the exception of JFK and Orlando) that MAN has got. There has to be a drawback of Midlands passengers to BHX from LHR but the biggest problem (one that MAN has as well) is that airlines tend to use the most prestigious/premuim heavy equipment to LHR with the "cast offs" going to the regions as and when they start a route. The much-needed premium passengers who travel down to LHR and get all the mod cons on services from there would be on a rude awakening if they tried using a BHX service to same destination with a lack of facilities on board - I have no doubt that the economy section would be pretty much full but may be a hard sell convincing premium passengers that local convenience outweighs better flight times and services from LHR.

As for equipment to give an idea of the 767s usefulness for operating BHX-ATL virtually trouble-free, you've only got to think of BA that sent their 767s from MAN to LAX which is 1000 nautical miles further.

It's either Finnair or Shaheen next as far as new airlines go. Both rumours are very very strong.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
