Facts seem to suggest more than one source stating DL to announce BHX soon.

I agree with Ray above.

Let's wait and see I agree it may not happen but equally no one should disregard it let's just wait and see before some how second guessing that BHX isn't going to get it !

I don't think Delta should go to BHX as they codeshare with VS and they have no presence or intention to show any in BHX whatsoever and Atlanta would have to be operated with a 767 and with BHX struggling to sustain a 752 daily to NY this winter I don't think it has got much hope.

Well you would say that wouldnt you, however please let me remind you that the world doesnt stop at LHR/MAN. Actually BHX has x 2 airlines who operate to NY during the winter. United which will be x 4 per week and American are showing daily on some months during the winter and x 5 per week on others. Obviously things can change. As for your desire for Delta not to operate from BHX, I have nothing to say on that comment but :meh:

DL are massive and the don't they own part of VS? I would have thought they could sustain a daily 767 300 flight to Atlanta. Curious to know how many Skyteam airlines fly into BHX? Plus maybe Flybe could codeshare with them? Maybe through VS?

And thank you User001 Manchester can only have too much excitement in the eyes of a BHX supporter and the cachement area for a flight from India to MAN wouldn't effect the BHX route. Perhaps they have been in talks for a long time because they want to make sure when the route is launched it will be a great success possibly to BOM as well as DEL.

And they may announce BOM from BHX, after all Air India have been at BHX longer so it would make sense for them to launch a second route from the airport. After all we are the Midlands engine for growth.

Currently we have Air France and KLM

Just Air France, KLM and Czech Airlines from Skyteam.

It's quite amazing that they're actually now 3-3 at BHX with Oneworld airlines. American, Iberia Express and Qatar. Oneworld is likely to overtake Skyteam next year with the addition of Finnair.

You'd never have predicted that a couple of years ago.

Star Alliance is the clear winner with Aegean, Air India, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa, Scandinavian, Swiss, Turkish Airlines and United. There may well be one or possibly two more added to that list next year.

You tease

KLM and Air France won't codeshare unless it goes through AMS and CDG. Could be a way for VS to see if they have demand for flights because I wonder if VS will takeover UK-USA routes out of the regional airports in the long term? Leaving DL just doing LHR and EDI?

Are Vueling not One world?

Interested to hear possibly 2 new star alliance airlines next year I know one but not the other

Why is it every so often we get few people that decide to make same ridiculous statements indicating who is better. If Birmingham had the same aspirations n vision has Manchesters did 30 or so years ago then we wouldn't be having these hideous comparisons. What has changed in the last few years is BHX invested in its facilities and having a longer runway gives them same edge as other main airports in competing for longhaul. The route development team has done a great job in attracting new business. They can only try and end of the day its the airlines that decide where their investment has the best returns. Sorry for the rant but this pettiness does spoil it for some.

If you were to look at MAN and BHX in tandem, you'd realise that Star Alliance is by far the biggest operator at the regionals.. they saw something that Skyteam and oneworld are only just cottoning onto.

One to possible look out for around Spring 2018 is Jetblue. Their 321NEO order today also indicates some will be the 321NEOLR variant so potentially opening up JFK/BOS-BHX. Looks like MCO/FLL-BHX may just be out of range

Austrian to Vienna is one rumour although I keep forgetting they already fly to Innsbruck :)

I can see it happening at MAN but not elsewhere. Virgins operation at Glasgow is small and leisure-oriented and with three airlines flying to New York from EDI just up the road, I can't see GLA sustaining an A330 to NY alongside United when BHX can't even fill two daily 757 all year.

Virgin have made it clear that they're happy to let their Midlands customers travel north and south, and if they codeshare on ATL-BHX then they can profit from the Delta flights without having to open a BHX base, which would be necessary for a daily flight.

It does for me mate but some just feel the need to constantly be on the BHX forum trying to put us back in our place. Such is life I guess, I'd just urge the regular BHX posters to try and rise above it :)

Austrian and Air China is my guess, outside chance of LOT?

If rumours are to be believed there are six Star Alliance airlines in various stages of discussions. One or two I'd say are very likely, one or two there is potential and one or two are very long shots. Time will tell.

I was going to include Austrian but I guess the Innsbruck flight is more of a charter and as far as I'm aware not bookable through Star Alliance partners. Vienna is on the BHX hit list though (y)

Actually what I can see happening for a BHX-ATL route is tied in with how VS actually manage MAN - they've stated they view MAN as a hub. With perhaps as many as as 7 to 10 A330s based there, we can have scope for interesting BHX development. At present we have 1 LHR A330 doing LHR-ATL-MAN-ATL-LHR. It doesn't take a great leap of the imagination for this to become MAN-ATL-BHX-ATL-MAN instead. Potentially could have scope for something like
MAN-MCO-BHX-MCO-GLA-MCO-MAN-MCO-BHX-MCO-GLA-MCO-MAN?

I think Delta will have a VS code offering packages on Virgin Holidays. It wouldn't surprise me if it's to be summer only to start with or at least dramatically reduced over winter.

After that I guess it depends on how the numbers stack up. If, after a year or two, Delta are liking what they see they may feel that switching it to Virgin is the way to go. Maybe even adding MCO also.

That's probably a fair way down the line though, lets get it announced first (y)

UA and AA to be joined by Delta next year so all three American legacy carriers, reckon an A330 operated by VS out of GLA would do very well. VS are also increasing MCO to 4*weekly.
I wouldn't rule out VS and DL having a joint venture at BHX after a few years of DL operations.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
