I'm not sure what it's all about but what 'lbia' has said seems to be the case. I've done some asking around today but nobody seems to know why they have done this. Apparently though, the figures can change if a new obstruction has been erected off the airfield, ie a new telephone pole on the Chevin or perhaps a tree on cemetery road has grown an extra metre or so?

An official reduction to the length of the runway is last thing we need and I thought it was the airports aim to increase the available runway length not decrease it?

Going back to the other day when Jointline painting was mentioned. This seems to me to be the sealing of the joints between the concrete slabs, to stop the ingress of water,(which when frozen helps to break up the surface,) with a bitumen type solution.

This makes no sense really. Such a reduction can only make it less likely that PIA will bring in their 777 or Jet2 a 767. Even the Bridgetown cruise flights such as the one on Friday would be impacted upon. I cannot believe that the airport would do anything voluntarily to reduce the take off distances, so is it possible that the CAA have imposed the reductions for some reason, and if so, why, and are they permanent?

If they are, then I would think that the airport might have to re-appraise their view that a runway extension is neither necessary nor desirable

There is no reduction in the declared distances - calm down everyone !!

NOTAM is referencing the fact that there are now officially published take off distances from various points along the runway - somthing that previously was not included in the Leeds Bradford documentation published by the NATS.

So, if you chose to begin your take off roll off of RWY14 abeam E2 (which is not the start of the runway as incorrectly stated by a previous poster - that would be E1), you now have the distances readily at hand.

http://www.ais.org.uk has all of the information available for free and is the best place to check out the facts.

Yes, because E2 is a holding point in the 14 loop behind E1. So with these new published TODA's, its still up to the airline where they begin take off roll?

Abeam E1 (start of runway 14) has changed then from its original, os has it just changed TODA's from points along the runway such as Delta, November or E2 for example?

I.e sometimes the jetstreams choose to take off roll from the top of Delta and ignore the backtracking option to 32 threshold. PIA for example, obviously have no option but to take it.

Sorry, just want to understand this...

The flight deck on each flight have the right to exercise discretion over how to get the aircraft into the air. From now on, any flight deck crew opting not to utilise the full length available will have a ready set of figures showing the TORA, TODA and ASDA from various points along each runway. Previously they would have had to request the figures from flight planning , ATC or calculate them manually from the airfield chart.

However, should they opt to use the full length then the figures are exactly as they were previously.

Thanks for the clarification LS16. I read the E1 and E2 holding points wrong initially which is why it didn't make any sense but what you say makes perfect sense. In the past these distances have been read out over the RT so it makes sense to have them written down to avoid potential human errors.

I wont be going after last years abysmal organization. :nea:

Last week our KLM F70 took off from Delta so no 32 backtrack. Now I know why I have not seen this before.

I haven't seen it yet, well, other than the odd Eastern Airways. It reminds me of one occasion when one of the old Balkan Airlines Tu154 requested runway 28 for departure. Air Traffic simply gave him the available runway length in slow broken English "one ---- thousand ----and ---- one ---- hundred --- metres" Needless to say he said runway 32 would be fine.

Now that would have been interesting to watch - a TU154 going out on 28. About the equivalent of a 747 taking off on an aircraft carrier! :nea:

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
