Re: Leeds Bradford - Notams

Does that mean that Alpha taxiway is going to be available for taxing larger aircraft during the NOTAM period?

Re: Leeds Bradford - Notams

I don't think it was a mistake. That taxiway has been there since I was little and was designed for Viscounts, not large jets. The entire western end of the apron is too shallow for large aircraft and I suspect some serious work would be required to rectify that. However, it would save time at busy periods if larger aircraft types could vacate there instead of further up, as it would reduce back tracking distance. So logically, they should invest a few pounds and widen it as xboy999 suggests.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Notams

As daft as it seems the 757's were using the Alpha taxiway for years before they realised that it was too narrow. I suppose if they took out stands 1 to 4 (?) it probably would be suitable for the larger aircraft again. Interestingly, looking back to Euro96 again I remember an Airtours A320 parking nose in on stand 3 or 4.

RWY 32 ILS DOWNGRADED TO CAT 1. 04 NOV 21:00 2009 UNTIL 06 NOV 09:00 2009

I presume that they haven't managed to get the required 300 hours of CAT I operations yet.

I wish they would get rid of them so we can get a 757 on taxiway Alpha via Alpha 2!

I'm guessing that the stands will be used to park snow clearing vehicles.

This NOTAM has expired. This hopefully means that CAT II and III are now available.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Notams

That will be a pain if departing off Rwy32, which will mean backtracking from Charlie? What they actually doing, ILS work again?

Re: Leeds Bradford - Notams

No I think there's company called Jointline painting. It will be a nuisance though like you said to have to back track half the runway from the November taxiway.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Notams

What are they actually doing...im guessing from their co name they are re-painting lines along Delta?

Exactly that mate, although the surface has to be completely dry for them to work on it so I guess the work is going to take longer than expected. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Delta closed for longer, unless they decide to return on a different date altogether, that is presuming they haven't managed to get it done today.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Notams

In the past when the painted them on when it's been damp the paint starts to come away from the surface meaning the work would need to be done again.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Notams

It is the usual problem for airports isn't it? Do it in Summer when it is more likely to be dry but far more flights are inconvenienced, or do it in winter and hope it doesn't start raining for a week the minute you start. Sadly, the latter scenario appears to be coming into play!

Re: Leeds Bradford - Notams

True, im sure all airports in the UK are the same, having to deal with mother nature against us during the winter season. But in my personal opinion (i dont know whether this work is part of the work to be done at the airport over the next year or so, with the terminal development), but re-painting the lines along Delta TWY would be a minority on my list of jobs to do.

About a month ago i was involved in a practice emergency situation at LBA (on a very quiet day) and i drove a coach up and down Delta TWY and from what i can remember, the lines were perfectly visable to me.

Can anyone make any sense of all this? Is the take off distance less than it was before and does anyone know why it's changed?

My guess would be that the runway take off distances have been reduced, the most important distance as follows;

Runway 14- Abeam E2 (from start of Runway 14) - TORA from 2113m to 1933m, TODA from 3169m to 2900m? Seems to me that all the TORA's and TODA's for both runways have been reduced?

Why have they changed this then? I didnt know it was physically possible to do this. Surely the airport would be looking at increasing these, not reducing them...

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
