I wonder what plan is for T1 building and B and C in the future? Surely demolition of buildings, tower, multistorey and B and C. If Pier 3 and 4 completed, maybe rebuild of Pier B joined to T3?? Speculation....maybe this could be all achieved over next 15 to 20 years?
I doubt we’ll see a pier 4 anytime soon.

Expect T1 to remain until the next TP whenever that might be.

The next TP… will be interesting to see what the long term concept is. Perhaps a new terminal 1 in front of the train station connected to T2 via an extended east pier. Could easily fit piers 3,4 and 5 once the old T1 is demolished. Wishful thinking I know, but a nice concept to aim towards over the next 20 years.

There’s this unverified possibly fan made image that’s been floating around a while

Sorry…I wasn’t very clear in my previous response.
I meant to say Piers B & C will be used but just not internally so therefore no point in refurnishing them. Yes, they will be used (‘or at least Piers C) as a bussing operation from the T2 B gates.
There are actually 3 piers in T2, don’t forget the east pier which can handle 8 narrowbody or 4 widebody aircraft at one time. There are also the Zulu remote stands, new western apron stands (although they are replacing some current stands) and of course there’s 10 narrowbody stands on pier C.

It would be good to perform a calculation between number of T2 stands there will be and how many based T2 aircraft there will be both in summer and winter…as EasyJet aren’t transferring until around November…can anyone provide some numbers…?
So from this morning departures I have counted the following on FR24. There's probably a miscount in there somewhere but it's a somewhat estimate:

Air France - 1
ASL Airlines - 1
British Airways - 2
Brussels Airlines - 1
EasyJet - 21
Jet2 - 21 (plus 4 on Standby)
KLM - 1
Lufthansa - 1
Lufthansa City - 1
TUI - 12 (plus 2 on Standby and additional 787 which arrives just after morning rush)

So that's 68 aircraft in total. If we use all stands that are Code C or lower (since all but a few will be this), I count 36 contact stands for T2 on the latest TAS map from 15th May. There's also 10 remote stands that are next to Pier 1 and another 10 on Pier C (not including 21 as I believe only A319 or smaller can use that) as well as another 23 code C aircraft stands that run along the Cargo sheds.

Ryanair are supposedly 17 based for Summer 2025 and there are currently 19 stands that they could use after the T1 Piers close (including Stand 1) and 20 if we include the works that will happen to Stands 16 and 17, so they already have a lot of space for themselves and may not need the east stands on Pier B initially. A few of these based aircraft also don't leave straight away so could be towed over, which is why I thought it would have been better for EasyJet to stay in T1/T3, especially if Pier B was to join T3 as this would have allowed them to have 14+ contact stands for them. But now we know that EasyJet will be in T2 so this is not happening.

So judging from that and the above, that's probably going to require a lot of bussing and towing for airlines in T2. Once the stands along the cargo sheds go then it looks like the west side of Pier B (and maybe east too?) as well as the stands by taxiway delta will also need to be used.

So yeah those may give us an idea, probably not accurate and someone will probably correct me on a few things, but hope that helps.

I know way back in the day airlines were (kinda) allocated a certain Pier in T1, so in like 2010 most Jet2 flights would use Pier B and most Monarch & Thomas Cook flights would use Pier C, and this changed later on with EasyJet mostly using Pier B and Jet2 mostly using Pier C. These was never a certain though, there was usually a select few on the other). So I do wonder if airlines could be somewhat allocated Piers once the Pier 2 opens, which would surely help with where staff need to be?

Not sure about the Piers, but I'd say in the short term it would be impossible to demolish any of the main building. The Multi Storey is built inside and above the terminal (I believe the baggage hall is directly underneath it) so would be very awkward to get rid of that without it affecting the parts of the terminal that are in use. I also saw on another forum that some wiring that runs into T3 goes through the current T1 which likely could be another reason why they can't knock it down.

Couple of updates -

First airbridges have now been installed on the new pier 2. The new stands 202/203 & 206/204 have each had an airbridge fitted. Elswhere on the airfield, the re-naming of the taxiways and addition of Orange & Blue lines on taxiway NA have been completed this week. The process of re-painting all the lines for the new configuration of NB & ‘Gyratory’ (remote stands in the middle) is well underway.

T2 East Security has been through operational trials however as yet is not open. WH Smith at T2 Check In has opened in the last week.

As has been announced, T3 is next for a refurb. Ryanair move to T1 has been delayed until November as the airline did not want to relocate their operation during the peak summer period. Won’t be many airline moves now until the next pier opens in September.

Will Ryanair temporarily use the T1 departure lounge and piers when they move over to T1 check in/security whilst the refurbishment of the T3 departure lounge/piers takes place?

Thanks as always for the valuable information.

Hopefully T2 security east opens soon before the peak summer period! Has zones A & C in the check in hall opened yet?
Nice to have a smiths in check in, where is this located?

Fair enough ref Ryanair not wanting to move before the winter schedule kicks in, can understand the logic.

Seems pier 2 has been delayed again then, last info was for a phased opening from July with just airlines currently in T2.

That would just funnel people quicker into only the T2X shopping mall. And we know it can’t cope. They really need legacy T2 fully open but it doesn’t look ready anytime soon

Thanks as always to @CCGE29

Photo below of pier 2 shows the new emirates lounge location.. any idea what the space circled in blue is earmarked for? Another lounge perhaps, or a gate/pre boarding area for the stand at the end of the pier with the long bridge?

Yes, at a guess a lower departure lounge for 314.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
