They are floor standing ventilation units, the air is circulated from under the floor instead of overhead.
Seems rather odd. They spend a lot of money planning with a view to reduce pillars only to replace them with these. I don't think they look too bad but they would be better at ceiling level.

Perhaps it means it’s possible to have a lighter, and therefore cheaper, roof structure by placing the load on the floor rather than the roof.

Project Update - Leeds Bradford Airport

Our team is working at full pace as Leeds Bradford Airport Project X25 Phase 1 approaches completion.

Final installation works are underway, and commissioning of the MEP systems is now well advanced.

We would like to extend our thanks to Farrans Construction and Leeds Bradford Airport for their continued trust in our team.

Had a tour of the terminal today. Some takeaways:

Departures:
• The HVAC units are staying on the floor, but they don't detract from the space.
• The main food&drink outlet is immense. There will be some seating outside of the outlet with QR codes to order drinks to the seat.

Arrivals
• Passport E-Gates won't be installed for 12-18 months. No reason given.
• Reclaim facilities feel like a major international airport.

Everywhere feels cavernous, bright and airy. Low ceilings are not a concern. Currently, there are 72 movements per day requiring buses. When the terminal upgrades are finished, this will be reduced to 8!
The airport is already in talks with tenders regarding a two-storey pier and gates system, looking to start the ball rolling within the next 2 years.
Gutting of the current terminal will begin the day after the extension goes live. It even smells like the new Burger King fryers are already going.

No more pictures? All sounds very impressive. You say the arrivals looks like a major international airport facility, did you get to see it all, including the parts that will initially be closed off or is your view on the basis of just what you could see with the three belts?

Has the flooring been done yet and is it tiled properly or is it the dredded floor vynal tiles?

Re Immigration. If I remember correctly I think it was stated it was the government Border Force responsible for passport egates and it will be up to them to install those.

Just the three belts. Flooring is done. Departures for the most part is properly tiled. Think arrivals is the same, with service corridors etc being lino. Pictures not allowed, unfortunately.

Do we know who the new F&B outlets will be yet? I presume all the ones currently will move in?
Burger king is confirmed, there is a small duty free vendor by the windows and the main food&drink outlet i have no idea.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
