Probably was out of limits on the speed, or gad wind shear!

It definitely is a struggle! A battle. A wrestle!

Yes we’re flying to SOP, but the only SOP affecting us are the limits. SOP doesn’t derive how much input we’re having to put in to keep the thing level, that’s just skill!
Im sure there was a reason for the go around and assumed it was wind shear. The aircraft was very low, appeared level and over the threshold, and seemed to have had a relatively trouble free approach compared to others which did land. It was the first go around. But it didn't make another attempt, went into the hold, then diverted. It came back a couple of hours later (when the wind was more problematic than ever) and once again didn't get in. The same happened to a Ryanair 738 that diverted to STN after a last ditch go around. It too came back later and also once again diverted back to STN. One Ryanair diverted to EMA without even coming near LBA and before the wind strength increased significantly . Again, I'm sure they had their reasons but it seemed odd given it just flew straight to EMA and made no attempt to even look at landing.

Whatever, the skill on display yesterday and the reactions of the crew was something to behold. Brilliant flying and they certainly earn their wages and then some in such conditions.

Like others though, Im sick of the lazy press picking on LBA every time there's a wind blowing or snow. Yesterday there were go around and diverts at numerous airports including MAN, NCL. EDI, GLA, ABZ as well as a few here. The worst of the weather was further north yet it was once again LBA providing the brainless pro DSA anti LBA mob with their fodder. As usual, they didn't disappoint, proclaiming as usual that DSA doesnt have such weather and all would've been well if it was open.

Where did the BBC get their film clip from, Blue Sky? Doesnt help that they are straight up to LBA whenever the wind blows.

The one I saw wasn't Blue Sky. It was already on line before Blue Sky's Live Stream started. I watched the whole stream and that landing wasn't on it.

To be fair to Blue Sky they are at LBA regularly whatever the weather and have a huge, very pro LBA following. I really enjoy watching their streams on TV. There's rarely a week without them doing one or two LBA live streams - usually one on Saturday and one midweek, with Sunday at MAN. I do agree though that when their videos end up posted on line with the usual wind related headlines, it doesnt show LBA in a good light and they are manna from heaven for the pro DSA lot just Itching to whinge about our airport to justify reopening theirs.

There seems to be a theory out there that only LBA suffers in such conditions. Clearly that's not the case.

Blue Sky Live Aviation are brilliant, if anyone has ever Met Nick and his son Tom, they are really great people and do a brilliant job and give us LBA supporters something good to watch, especially when it’s windy it’s a bit of entertainment watching the highly skilled pilots trying to land, don’t forget they are out in all weathers doing the live streams not just wind but sometimes monsoon rain, and the occasional sunshine. We should be supporting them to build up there channel it also showcases the airport, and it be nice if the airport actually helped them with a good filming location, instead of behind a 6 foot fence.

I doubt very much whether video clips of aircraft landing at LBA in windy weather will have the slightest effect on whether DSA opens or not or will put people off from flying from LBA. Let the DSA fanatics crow about their sub tropical climate and perfect all year round flying conditions. The fact remains LBA is thriving whilst DSA is well….still closed!

Love watching the blueskylive footage from LBA and MAN, I've met nick and tom myself, great guys.
If there is nothing to watch on tv (most the time esp if its bbc) then you cant beat watching the days action at LBA, even my mum gets into it!
The lads are very professional and never step over the line with extreme comments although the site does have the moderators.
It would be great at some point if BSL went airside to sell the airport to the general public as they do have a very large following, but of course security checks etc would need to be completed, a bit like jerry from bigjet tv often does. Could you imagine jerry filming from LBA when its windy weather! 😂

It's now been switched to an 800, G-DRTI.

Looks like we may have got an inbound Ryanair divert from BHX which has been closed after a light aircraft incident. The aircraft, a MAX in from TFS, is scheduled to position back to BHX later. Not sure if we got anything else.

Boeing 737-MAX8, 9H-VVG was LBA based and arrived after operating the Tenerife RYR240/241 rotation and then positioned out empty to Birmingham as RYR9870.

Meanwhile Boeing 737-800, EI-EBZ was positioned in from East Midlands as RYR316 to replace it and operated this evenings RYR2310/2311 Palma rotation

Thanks lbaspotter.

Was that our only Ryanair based MAX that's gone, or did we have two temporarily? We dont seem to have anywhere near as many MAXs from Ryanair as last summer. Perhaps LBA have cut their incentives or other airports increased theirs. Not much point really incentivising airlines to base them here given that these types seemingly are counted just like everything else against the night quota.

A good question to ask at the next community event.

That was our sole based MAX, am sure another will reappear based over Next few days.

Jet2 B737-800 GDFS will position out from Manchester to Prague to cover the return LS204 PRG-LBA as B733 G-GDFL appears to have gone tech after doing the outbound.

That was our sole based MAX, am sure another will reappear based over Next few days.
B737-Max-8 EI-HMX is currently the based Max after tail swapping with the DUB outbound this morning.

As per our favourite local rag, the YEP, it seems our little airport has failed to live up to its reputation for every other flight diverting due to snow/wind/fog/ tech delays etc, because it's finished 3rd best out of 13 airports surveyed over the summer months from 2022-4. Gatwick and Manchester were worst. East Midlands was best. Liverpool 2nd best, LBA next scoring 2.5 out of 10, with 0 being perfect, and 10 being as bad as it gets.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
