The runway is concrete. Not tarmac. Chances are they'll need to replace one or two of the concrete slabs as they did when a similar thing happened in 2024.
Well the match has finished on TV now so they're probably on their way. Let's hope they haven't all been having a Friday night 'session' or they'll all be arriving in taxis!During the overnight winter closures they can replace at least 2-3 of these concrete slabs.
The silo is still on site and they use a quick setting mix. But first they’ll wait and sit it out until the contractors are called out and they bring the required equipment to site.
It happened at EDI last year too.Oh well. sh*t happens. Any single runway airfield could potentially face the same.
Well we now know what has caused the damage - it's LUFC as they have been beating the hammers! The runway is concrete. Not tarmac. Chances are they'll need to replace one or two of the concrete slabs as they did when a similar thing happened in 2024.
There wasn't an outbound flight listed for West Ham anyway.

FR24 is only calculating the delay to flights that have already departed, which is eight of them (at the current time, 08:00)With an average 28 min arrival delay and an average 100 min departure delay (source FR24) I would say that's a damn good recovery. Credit to all involved to get things operational again. My visit to the Multi flight cafe this PM will now not be a boring one too
Is the concrete batching plant for the runway repairs? I assuned it was just for the new stands.During the overnight winter closures they can replace at least 2-3 of these concrete slabs. The silo is still on site so mixing the concrete on site won’t be a problem. If not they could bring it to site premixed by trucking it in. If I remember correctly they use a very quick fast setting mix
But first they’ll have to wait and sit it out until the contractors are called out, they will bring out all required equipment to site with them.
No it's for the new apron work and it is unlikely they will use that for runway work as they will need quick setting concrete. Is the concrete batching plant for the runway repairs? I assuned it was just for the new stands.
10 tons = 2 tipper waggon loads???????? Obviously using Tonka toys then, maybe even Dinky toysI understand after been told that the contractors on site last night have done a temporary fix to the damaged runway surface area using 8-10 tonnes of Tarmac, or put it another way that’s 2 tipper waggon loads.
It will be replaced with concrete once the overnight winter runway maintenance restarts in a few weeks time
Thats what I inferred. No it's for the new apron work and it is unlikely they will use that for runway work as they will need quick setting concrete.
Late Friday night….I thought they all went to the pub at 1pm on a Friday.Where are those blokes who have spare cheap tarmac from a job they’ve just finished up the road when you need them?
Guess this one doesn’t count as diverting to the runway closure as it diverted due to a hydraulic issue. Still in CDGJet2 B737-300 G-GDFL from Nice diverted to CDG
Not just Ryanair. They all do it.Ryanair pilots, are you listening?![]()
