Leeds Bradford: Weather & Technical Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
Looks like Jet2 have got real problems once again.

Boeing 737-800 G-GDFF is positioning in from Stansted as EXS042A to operate the delayed LS481/482 Agadir rotation.
Boeing 737-800, G-JZHX is to position in from Liverpool a EXS045A to operate the delayed LS487/488 Bougas rotation.

Meanwhile the earlier diverted B737-300, G-GDFK has repositioned into Leeds as EXS268A after it’s splash & dash into Manchester

Serious question here. Does anyone else feel Jet2 are spreading themselves too thinly?
It's clear, even without the bias we possess, but the 733s are clearly coming to the end of their useful lives - perhaps slightly earlier than Jet2 wanted/planned. And not forgetting they do have some elderly 738s.
They have newer bases in LGW and LTN to support but I believe only a +3 aircraft gain in 2027, and that's without any additional 733 issues.
They seem to be positioning aircraft right left and centre to cover for tech units with delays galore.
Is now the time for them to just re-group and stop the aggressive expansion?
I am not for 1 minute saying they are in any sort of trouble but what concerns me is they could very easily lose the fantastic reputation and loyal customer base they have worked so hard to build up. At what cost does current expansion potentially come at?
Appreciating this could have been one for the Jet2 thread but it does all link in to cancellations and delays.

I think there are quite a lot of big delays in Europe and then if a tech problem happens it can get a little bit out of hand. I heard one at MAN tonight but I missed who it was but they were already off stand and were asked if they could take a delay at a point on the airfield until a new slot came through and I think he was shutting down.

I have actually been quite impressed this year with how they have substituted aircraft. They always seem to have aircraft in reserve and unlike some other airlines dont simply cancel to get back on track.

My worry is just that Ive seen multiple airlines expand quickly over the years and its not normally ended well.

Yes I've been thinking that for a while looking back just about every holiday company/airline has failed most significantly recently being Thomas Cook and Monarch and those failures created growth potential for Jet2. The only original notable survivor being TUI originally Thomson Holidays who formed Euravia later Brittania and like jet2 had a private founder in the Thomson family.

I'm sure Jet2 know what they are doing but defo need to keep their eye on the ball as there are plenty of sharks around !

As I say numerous times Jet2 don't get much (if anything) wrong. But that in itself comes with a danger that you can start thinking you are immune to certain things. I don't actually doubt things will be ok for them, I was more curious if anyone else shared my concerns over how things "appear" to be right now and wether enough new A21N deliveries may continue to offset expansion, B733 (X2) retirement and what appears to be an increase in tech issues. I do however agree that they are very good at moving aircraft around to cover - it just seems increasingly more necessary than ever at the moment

I agree with your expression of concern Finger. I feel exactly the same and mentioned it in a post some time ago, specifically about the 733's being unreliable and forever going tech.

Jet2 have a good reputation but good reputations can be ruined very quickly by people telling their friends (or anyone who will listen) that they were delayed by x or y hours when their Jet2 flight was disrupted by a broken down aircraft. The fact that Jet2 probably worked their socks off to rectify the problem by mending the aircraft minimizing the delay, utilizing a spare they had sitting around not earning its keep or even flying in a replacement, at great expense, will do nothing to prevent anger and disillusionment about the Company.

They need to be very careful with their use of older airframes particularly those that they know from bitter experience have caused them problems in the past.

Jet2 problems may be as a result of new management with different ideas..Bear with me as I have a connection with Brittany Ferries founded by the late Alexis Gourvennec to whom it was his baby..The customers were king and made pay days possible. He built and brought into service cruise ferries. He advertised them as 'The Holiday Fleet'..and it worked..They were forgiven the hiccups..Fast forward to another visionary called Phillip Meeson..Same philosophy, Ansett 733's and built from there..Yes he kicked ass and demanded like Gourvennec he reined in his vision and only advanced it when it was right and affordable...
Sadly today the visionaries are laughed at, boom at all costs to keep out the predators is the mantra...its part of the business world we have to live with...😥
Brittany ferries??..They are closing 2 routes after the summer and selling 2 ships, getting rid of lots of staff..no expansion and kept alive by smoke and mirrors from the French Government...
Truly a world I hate and I wish Jet2xall the love and success for the future...
Thanks for bearing with me guys

Something went badly wrong with LS252 yesterday, it arrived over 10 hours late! No spare aircraft drafted in, I'm guessing tech or crewing issue
I spotted that too, according to FR24 the aircraft which left LBA as LS251 was G JZHX which then tail swapped with G GDFU which had arrived in Faro from Stanstead. Sods law and assuming the issue was FU going tech it was the LBA passengers who suffered the delay, not the Stanstead folks as HX departed Faro just 20 minutes late.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
