Jet2 Boeing 737 800, G-GDFU, operating todays LS483 flight to Cologne is squawking 7700 and in a holding pattern (after departure ) at 9000', so clearly has a problem. Its now seems to be heading out of the hold in a Southerly direction towards BHX.
Possible flap or pressurisation issues? (Just guessing).

Update. Landed at BHX after 50 minutes in the air. If FR24 is to be believed, it was flying at over 160 knots over the runway 15 threshold. Flaps?

Did a short test flight at 19.54, a circuit of the airport lasting around 15 minutes. According to FR the speed crossing the threshold of R15 was 132 knots which seems a bit more normal and which seems to add weight to WH’s opinion that the original problem may well have been a flaps fault.

I agree other than the speed was unverified.

I watched it live on FR24. It showed a speed of around 159 knots on approach and then that increased to around 166 knots on finals. That may of course be nonsense as FR24 was seemingly having a bad day, because according to that the aircraft stopped half way down the runway, then continued, went off the end for quite some distance, then disappeared only to reappear exiting the runway where you'd expect.

The main thing is that it landed safely but I read elsewhere that it was a flaps issue. I imagine that had MAN not had its own problems with a runway closure, it would probably have diverted there instead.

Does anyone know why GDFO was three hours late leaving this morning please?

I persuaded a group of friends to fly to CPH from Leeds instead of MAN today and Im sure they will not be happy as their flight is also 3 hours late now!

Thanks

Because B733 G-GDFN went tech this morning so FO covered (sometimes FO does come to the rescue)

To Add B733 G-GDFM and B738 G-JZHV is tech so are bringing an A321 G-HLYF in from Manchester to do the Budapest flight ETD 17:45.

An A321, that's a bit different. Shame they couldnt have brought an aircraft in to cover the CPH.

G-GDFM tech, only a few days after coming back from a C check in Dublin? That sounds familiar. Exactly what happened with G-GDFO and that one has been a bit troublesome ever since. Hopefully history won't repeat itself.

Unfortunately there’s no spare aircraft so had to wait for the Malaga inbound to return

Update to my previous post apparently B738 G-JZHV is serviceable again so is operating the Budapest and the Airbus is Cancelled.

Im surprised there arent spares available at this time if year.
Look at FR24 and how many Jet2 arrivals there are. The LBA fleet was very busy today and two were tech too . And is a 733 still at Newquay? We have 44 arrivals today which is indicative of how busy Jet2 are thanks to the various city break flights as well as the usual sun flights.

Ryanair from Krakow gone to Manchester by the looks. Biz jet also holding.
The Ryanair did a 32 tailwind approach but aborted by the time it was overhead the Ring Road. I actually watched it climbing away from my window and I am only 2 miles from LBA. No second attempt. The tailwind was 150 degrees 6 knots at the time according to FR24.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
