JET2 Review 20 July ATH - MAN LS1710, departure 13.15
I haven't been to Athens airport for a few years now, its certainly felt a lot busier than I recall. I think the " new " airport is beginning to struggle . This I think is evident due to the fact Jet2's check-in desk have been squeezed in by the road side windows . There is no conveyer to take luggage anywhere, so bags are put on trollies behind the check in desks and then wheeled to where ever they need to go, to be loaded on the aircraft.
Check in , its self once started was efficient, but what passengers should be aware of is Jet2 , other LoCos, plus US and Canadian flights depart from area C ( satellite terminal ). Don't be temped to stop landside for a coffee, because I discovered that its a hell of a walk to reach area C, with no obvious warnings about this. Once there it was extremely busy, an American service to Philadelphia was departing, also an Air Canada service and plenty of European services by Wizz , Easyjet , Volotea etc. Just before you go to your gate you need to pass through passport control, it wasn't too busy when I left, but again something to consider.
The flight boarded a bit late, I was sat in row 3. The pilot said they picked up a delay on the way out, which was holding us up on the return. I nodded off, realised we hadn't moved, was 45 mins late by then.
Flight was fine, have used Jet2 a few times now, and I like their service. One thing I don't like is their tiny tray tables which if you order a meal, is a real balancing act trying to eat it and keep a drink from not dropping off the table. I think I will just stick to a sandwich in the future.
The flight is about 3.40, to Manchester, I wasn't 100 % sure which terminal we would arrive at presumed it was 2. We were not able to go to a stand for quite a while , so waited for half an hour or so before we moved to a gate ( which was terminal 2). Not as long as Athens , but quite a walk to Passports which was empty so through quickly. Waited for bags then needed an Uber. If anyone needs this , its from the West multi -storey car park, I found this out by googling as there are no signs to tell you, possibly because regular cabs don't want Uber advertised .
