Just this moment seen a Chinook flying in the direction of LBA... Anyone knows what that's about? Don't think I've ever seen one of those in real life before!

Yes, thanks for that James and welcome to forums4airports.

We hope you become a regular contributor.

Cheers - don't suppose you know what it was doing at LBA?

Think it was a fuel stop or a fly through, Possibly enroute to Leeming but not 100% sure.

James

It cant of been a fuel stop, It never actually landed at LBA. It passed over direct the LBA NDB as it tracked North West.
Ah ok, given the heading and altitude I just assumed it was landing there. Funnily enough, another one's just flown over my house now!

HI

The Monarch flight, MON698 to Mahon this evening is been operated by Leeds/Bradford based Jet2.com, Boeing 757-200, G-LSAA.

The outbound passengers have have been bussed over from Manchester airport. Meanwhile the inbound service MON699 from Mahon will drop of its passengers at Manchester before the aircraft re-position's empty back to Leeds as MON699P so that the aircraft is back in its right position for tomorrow morning for normal Jet2 operations.

[textarea]Leeds Bradford flights at risk from high speed rail

A high-speed rail link from London to Leeds will dramatically reduce air travel from Leeds Bradford Airport, the Yorkshire Post reports. Transport Secretary Philip Hammond told MPs that one of the reasons he supports plans for super-fast trains connecting London to the North was because it will eventually replace the need for domestic flights.

Mr Hammond also said in an ‘ideal world’ he would like to see the 250mph trains connected right through to the Channel Tunnel, which would also reduce the need for flights from Leeds Bradford to places like Paris and Amsterdam. Appearing before the transport select committee, He said such a switch from domestic and short haul flights to rail would have a ‘transformational’ affect on the economy.

However, bosses at Leeds Bradford International Airport disagree, predicting that both domestic and short-haul travel from the airport will increase, even when high-speed rail is up and running. Tony Hallwood, the airport's commercial director, pointed out that its airlines fly to domestic destinations that will not be served by high-speed rail – like the south coast and south west of England, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland.

Flights between Schiphol and Leeds will also continue to be important because they allow passengers to get from the continent to Yorkshire without having to travel via London, he added.

What domestic flights?? 3 a day to Gatwick is all it would ever impact on. Trains would take 5/6 hours to places like Amsterdam. Daft comments if you ask me.

I agree Bigman i doubt it will effect the 3 flight's to London Gatwick and i would certainly fly to Amsterdam rather than the Train

The worry is that idiots like this guy are running our country! He is a Transport Secretary and he is coming out with rubbish like this? Presumably passengers to Southampton and the West Country are supposed to get the high speed train to London, then transit across London to the likes of Victoria and Paddington to get another train then? The comments about Amsterda are simply a joke.

Especially coming from a representative of a government whose leader was rushing round the country by air in his general election campaign until the ash problems stopped him.

Too many politicians are hypocrites. Liam Fox the Minister of defence is another.

His record as an MP shows he took as many journeys by air as any politician (at public expense of course) yet he opposes the expansion of Bristol Airport.

We are supposed to be short of money and are boasting to the world that we will be the leaders of a Green revolution, yet we still give hand-outs to such countries as India, whose state of Gurarat alone is building eleven new airports to boost its tourism industry.

It's the lunatic asylum led by the inmates all over again.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
