Thank you for that rather positive outlook.Im afraid to say its the stigma LBA has as to why many carriers will not look at our airport. We had our chance but jenrick and snort face screwed it up for us. The current 1960s terminal extension will help but still its that same old building.
Even with a new terminal what’s to say we would get any new airlines? An old terminal can still attract new airlines if given good incentives. Even so existing airlines such as Jet2 and Ryanair still show much interest as we’ve seen new routes with them recently (Bergen, Perpignan and also expansion on current routes)Im afraid to say its the stigma LBA has as to why many carriers will not look at our airport. How do you know that?It is unlikely Jet2 will retain Bergen as a regular destination. This is a one off prompted by aircraft lying idle during winter months.
I thought these flights were in Spring, not winter? If so, it's nothing much to do with idle aircraft. If its a success, then there's no reason why they might not do it again. There's a decent market in Scandinavia for holidays and with their Iceland programme, Jet2 have shown they are aware of the potential if heading North. Norway could do well for them as a limited capacity destination. It is unlikely Jet2 will retain Bergen as a regular destination. There's quite a good market now for hiring camper vans and driving up the coast. A stunning drive. Probably need a two week stay to do it properly but it's a holiday I would love. These flights are in spring and officially summer timetable. If it was due to idle aircraft, they would be planned in one of the winter months and probably on a Wednesday. I think Gulftraveller is sharing their opinion, rather than an official position. I personally agree with White Heather that the market is there, people will pay a premium as it is seen as a niche market, but no doubt a lucrative one for Jet2. Bergen is an interesting destination with a lovely old town and nice backdrop, so I think it will sell well - the only downside is it can be very wet there though.

We used to see charters from Norway for big games using small commuter aircraft. F27's and Nord 262's. Shame they couldn't be resurrected.I’m not a football fan but after working in various Leeds hotels over the past 10years I’m still amazed how many supporters come to Leeds on match weekends from Norway, Denmark and Sweden. If Jet2 could operate some FRI & MON flight to say BGO CPH OSL over the football season I’m sure they could market these as city breaks for us and football weekends for the Scandinavians.

Im sure I've seen a pic of the braathens 737 next to a 747 on the LBA apron?Back in the 70s and 80s, Busy Bee F27s and Braathens 737 200s were a common sight bringing Norwegian Leeds fans over for football cum shopping weekends. In fact there was a Braathens 737 on 4th November 1984, the day the runway extension opened.
