In fairness I don’t believe any UK airport is really bad, but where we do let ourselves down are in a few areas.
Firstly, planning is costly and protracted and by the time things are decided, the original budget is no longer enough, as prices have gone up. We then cost engineer and end up with vanilla and lose the sprinkles as the budget has gone.
Our airports therefore are never architectural wonders, we don’t have have a stand out that people remember their visit by, such as Singapore. However, our main failing in my opinion is maintenance- in all areas of life in the UK we maintain things poorly, so very quickly things can look a bit tired. That said, I’ve never had a really bad experience at any UK airport, they are functional, just not outstanding.

The worst I have used recently is Verona, bloody awful and Heraklion years ago was absolutely nasty.

Malaga non Schengen as I found out the other day is pretty utilitarian and grim, in stark contrast to the Schengen gates… but that’s what we get with Brexshit.

Not to let facts get in the way of a good story, but brexit has nothing to do with this. We weren’t in schengen pre 2016 and there was no prospect of us ever joining. In terms of the area used for UK flights at Malaga, nothing has changed.

KAFRA, prior to brexit UK nationals weren’t stamped in and out and weren’t separated from Irish passengers. On entering the gates (and on arrival immigration) UK passengers join a queue with the UK and Moroccan flag, Irish and Schengen/EU go via a separate queue- I know, I joined it as I’m dual UK/Norwegian. Those are facts, no story.

Whether you agree with me or not, in my opinion the B gates are pretty nasty, but not LBA related so I will leave the discussion there.

Yes, oddly I am aware of the change in stamping passports. What’s that got to do with the state of the gate area?

The non Schengen gate area is the same as used pre Brexit. It was grim and utilitarian before, it still is now.

Firstly a belated Happy New Year to all our readers, having been delayed and distracted by numerous events I shall not bore you with. On a better note we are off through LBA on Monday lunchtime, RYR, to seek solace from the the sun in Fuerteventura. Does any recent traveller know if the security is still the old system or has any part of the new system operational. I`m hoping for the best but not expecting it...thanks

The old system with two running lanes.

Do we know when the installation of the new scanners will be completed please?
Provided there are no further delivery delays from the manufacturer, which also depends on no delays in Government approval to the revised specification, then works were expected to be finished by the end of February.

Might be safer to assume mid March then!

The first two were due to be completed in February. The remaining two is looking fluid at the moment.

I read in a press article the other day that the whole job was to be completed by late February/ early March.

So I take it, that isn't going to happen? Bloody typical

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
