Slightly off topic but I see Rachel Reeves is trumpeting today’s announcement of the expansion and investment in Stansted airport by MAG……the same MP who penned this letter when LBA tried the same….Lets hope she now sees sense and backs the airport in the City she is supposed to represent…. https://westleedsdispatch.com/leeds-west-mp-rachel-reeves-objects-to-new-airport-terminal-plan/
Presumably when she was a local MP in the opposition party trying to show solidarity with people in her constituency. However just look at last weeks DP World issue where the Government quickly distanced themselves from the comments, she’s in a position now where investment programs have to be supported even if it goes against their principles - this will be one of (hopefully) many.

LBA has almost always been shunned by the politicians and local public sector leaders, they think it should be elsewhere. It takes someone to pull £1bn of investment to actually realise that they haven’t the commercial awareness to make logical decisions on things such as airport developments. Other local airports are a prime example of this.

I dont think many in her constituency are interested in environmental issues, nor are they affected by aircraft noise.

She is still a local MP - MP for the Pudsey constituency. What however is interesting is that (unless I missed it)there has not been a peep from any of the local MPs re the night flights appeal….Sobel normally is the first to normally bleat about the airport and usually doesn’t hesitate to raise his opposition, since the election I’ve not heard anything….
I do wonder if now the problem of getting a growing economy is their problem they’ve change their viewpoint!

Well certain things can be said in opposition that don’t cut it in office, last weeks DP World comments are a case in point. I’m not going to discuss politics and left vs right red vs blue, it’s a nature of the beast unfortunately.

The Jet2 engagement at the party conference a couple of weeks ago should show that the current Government are open to growth in air travel. I personally think there’s a finite level of demand and we will start to see a plateauing of growth overall in the coming years, but the investment into LBA which I understand is entirely private investment, should be absolutely supported because the market has voted with its feet and LBA is where viable growth in Yorkshire air travel will be so trying to resist it is counter productive.

Yes it does, but both airports are much bigger and handle many more pax than LBA so it's all relative. If we had the space for a 2nd runway (aka the old 10/28) to help with crosswinds I think additional monies would have been spent on that. I though am very happy with investment and development the airport is seeing as I remember what it was like in the late 70's and I know we have forum members who remember before that

Sierra hotel if you do the maths on current passenger volumes for each airport, relevant to the investment, the spending is higher per current passenger at LBA. So in relative terms it is just as significant.
Totally agree, it’s all relative. Why would anyone want to invest £1.3bn into an airport handling 4-5mppa? Those other airports are huge and like you say, when you look at the passenger figures it’s pretty much equal investment per head anyway.

Ah yes, the good old days of the Yeadon Air Show which had to be halted for a few minutes to allow the odd scheduled Viscount to land/take off!

Think we will all need to be careful how we respond to that but think it's fair to say we all had our suspicions that was going to be the case. Definitely a challenging day weather wise and even a minute change in conditions could impact any flight without warning. The important thing was that there were no serious injuries or fatalities, and to a lesser extent the aircraft didn't have to be declared a write off

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 2nd time
If you’re tired of takeoffs, you’re tired of life.
49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
