Hi Tom,

I assume there are more holiday flights on Sunday but less smaller aircraft schedules.

Sorry for the late response,

Yes, I hadn't thought about it like that. Overall there should be more passengers as the aircraft do more rotations and the typical load factor should be bigger on the more populous days.

These should, in theory, make up the loss from domestic rotations also.

Hi

Forgot to mention this but the airport are running a survey asking a few questions about looking at ways to improve the services and facilities they offer. I'm sure some members on here will find it quite a good way of expressing there views.

By the way, For taking part you will also be entered in to a monthly prize draw to win £250 of high street vouchers. So it's worth a few mins.

I wonder if people have seen that Multiiflight now sponsor Huddersfield Town. Sorry White Heather.

Just seen on Look North morning news that the Chinese Olympic team arrive in Leeds today. A 747/777 into LBA would be nice

Are they arriving direct into LBA or arriving in another airport say MAN or LHR and busing it to Leeds?

They flew into the UK over the weekend, and not into LBA obviously. They were already training at the John Charles Sports Centre this morning. Disappointing that having chosen LBA they didn't fly into here. No doubt they will have gone over the hill or down to Heathrow.

It is all good news with BA and Monarch. I was just wondering how many aircraft can staff deal with at any one time airside? refuelling, baggage and catering etc. And which airline(s) takes priority. Will more jobs be created to enable this to run smoothly. Can anyone give any info on this. The last thing passengers want would be delays waiting for baggage or fuel truck etc. I would also hope this kick starts the creation of the parallel taxiway and aircraft stands and who knows maybe a runway extension(in dream mode).

I would expect more jobs will be created in all areas to facilitate the extra flights from Monarch, Thomson's and Jet2. The general day to day services can be accommodated fairly easily. The only problem I can foresee is with the terminal check-in and departure areas without any further alterations. Over the weekend we saw horrendous conditions in the departure lounge with several flights being delayed due to the bad weather at LBA. All three Jet2 757 aircraft diverted to Manchester leading to massive delays with a knock on affect lasting all day. So on top of the usual departures, around 700 passengers were using the departure lounge that were delayed. There are still things that can be done to help the situation. The lobby area where gate 7 is could be altered to hold more people and provide better access to the walkway. The ground floor WHSmith's in departures could be removed now the larger store is open upstairs. Also in the check-in area would be possible to add around six to eight more check-in desks if the landside WHSmith's and the Information desk were moved or removed. I would imagine the management of the airport will need to look at things such as this if the council planning department continue to be awkward.

The press release said 200 jobs. They are not all crew so some will be airport jobs. So yes they can cope with the extra aircraft.

lbaspotter.

Can you give us the latest running total for new flights.(rotations)
It must be stacking up quite a bit now.
Also maybe an estimation of possible extra passenger numbers.

Many thanks,

I am sure somebody will be able to calculate this far better than I have but here is my estimate....

1 X Jet2 757 @ 16 (?) departures p/w= 3420 passengers per week
2 X Monarch A320 @ 30 (?) departures p/w = 5400 passengers per week
1 X BA A319 @ 28 (?) departures p/w = 4480 passengers per week

So that will be over 13,000 extra departing passengers a week when the aircraft are full.
Around an extra 148 movements each week.
Over 26,000 passengers a week if you include the arriving passengers.
Over half a million extra passengers next year through the summer will not be far off the mark.

Aviador you've missed the Thomson holidays flights with them figures above. We will have 12x extra weekly flights with they operating 14x flights next summer compared to the 2x flights they operate this summer season.
Seen that we still don't know what equipment they are using it a hard one to work out, But I think LBA will end up with either a B738, B752, A320 or A321 based.

Also we still dont know what Thomas Cook's plans are yet, Will they pull out and take seats with Jet2 and maybe Monarch. or will they just operate there own flights doing w-legs? I guess we will find out sooner rather than later.

Thomson's Airbus A320's/321's and their B733 are being released from service by the end of this Summer, so it's looking like either a single B738 or a B752 from Thomson next year.

The fact Jet2 have just announced a Zante route from both LBA and MAN say's a lot especially at LBA. Thomas Cook it seems are leaving LBA now.

Monarch are basing 2x A320's by the sounds of it as well.

Its looking increasingly like an allocation on monarch and jet2 is coming for Thomas Cook

Here are the change's so far for next summer 2013. And there will be still more to change i would guess. As like mentioned Jet2 keep adding drips and drabs while we still ahve to see what Ryanair's reaction will be to all this expansion. Plus we still need to wait for confirmation of Thomas Cook's actions.

I wouldn't mind betting that if the Kos route has carried sufficient passengers to be viewed a success, it will be back again before too long. Ryanair are regulars at pulling out of airports because they are not happy with them for whatever reason, then going back again when they have made friends again.

One though that has just crossed my mind, given all the extra flights for next year - which are great news - if PIA do suddenly decide to send a B777 to Leeds could LBA cope at that time of the week and at when does saturation point occur?

I'm not sure how many people a PIA 777 holds. If we go with around the 300 mark, it's not many people considering the number of people pass through the airport especially when it's busy. At the moment on a busy day the airport handles over 7000 departing passengers. As we're not 100% sure what's happening with Thomas Cook flights next year and even the Thomson programme is a little uncertain so far as we're not sure who is operating their flights we can only be definite about an extra an extra 4 aircraft. These being 1 x British Airways, 2 x Monarch and 1 x Jet2. If Thomson are basically replacing the Thomas Cook programme, the charter traffic will stay almost the same. Based on this we can guesstimate that an additional 1500 passengers will be departing LBA each day when the airport is busy and when the flights are full. That means on the busiest days the airport might handle around 8500-9000 departing passengers. At the moment the airport has peaks and troughs with the peaks between 05:00 and 09:00 and again between 14:00 and 17:00 most days with some exceptions. Given that both Monarch and Jet2 aircraft will be based at LBA, their schedules are likely to be within the current busy periods with the first flights generally departing between 06:00 and 09:00. For arriving flights the evening is busiest between 20:00 and 00:00 midnight but again with peaks and troughs throughout the day. So as for PIA, if they do decide to upgrade to a 777, it shouldn't make all that much difference all things considered.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
